Last two cleans today. Could get the elbows higher.
Who be this Michael Harada fellow that thou doth speaketh of with such hushed and hallowed tones?
Last time I did Nationals in 2009, Michael Harada was the second place finisher. Since then, he has gotten stronger, (won Nationals last year) and I have gotten weaker. If we are both at 100%, he will probably beat me by a couple kilos right now.
Since you’re such a modest fellow, I’m going to read between the lines and assume you won in 2009, but did not compete in 2010?
Yes, that’s right.
Training 3/23/2011

Carl, I’m strictly a spectator, and even as a spectator I’m a newbie.
But I watched the CalStrength Open, live, as Jon North snatched 157 (which he then spat at, walked away wagging his finger and muttering “that weight’s too light, too light” -he has what I would call an inimitable lifting style, lol), then a rock solid 160. If I’m not mistaken, North has not even gotten 157 in competition since then.
My point being, imho your psychological edge from the head-to-head victory trumps “a couple kilos” every time. My money’s on you!
And I was just thinking you don’t use straps in your practice? That’s very unusual isn’t it? You must be a closet Shaolin master of Iron Palm kung fu or something. ![]()
you don’t use a belt either, do you Carl?
Thanks for the encouragement punnyguy. That thought will be in the back of my mind thoughout the competition. You’re right, I don’t use straps except for high pulls which I haven’t done in a long time. The weights I use are not that heavy, so the hands are only those of a Shaolin apprentice of Bamboo Palm.
No belt alexus. They only get in they way.
Training 3/24/2011
Snatch: 50x2, 60x2, 65x1, 70x1, 75x1, 80x1, 85x1, 89x0,1, 91x1, 93x1, 95x1, 97x1, 99x0,0,0,0,0
Damn close on every attempt at 99. Last one missed behind.
95, 97, and the last two misses at 99, the first complete with miniature tantrum.
very disappointed in the “mini tantrum”, I expected at least a word or two but NOOOO, nothing but a jump backwards…
I guess the hamstring is treating you alright now.
Note to self: Tantrums might be disappointing if they do not include vocalizations. I’ll try to do better next time.
The hamstring is better, but still holding me back a little.

or some fist shaking or stomping about…
heh, CD is just too cool for school, Dog.
I think that tantrum was like Howie Mandel’s “Inside joke…”

oh I see. that had me puzzled,

Your lifting is outstanding but you are going to have to work on your tantrums.
