White Lights Carl! Best of luck to you

Carl, you are the man, and you don’t need luck. Have fun!

Thanks George, punnyguy. I’ll do what I can.

Last two snatches and last two cleans.

Training 3/31/2011

Basically the warmup for each lift on Saturday. Again, all power cleans to save the knee.

Plans for Saturday are:

Could go up or down a couple kilos, depending on how things go.

Best of luck.

Go and be awesome, Carl!

Go for it, Carl!

Good luck for tomorrow Carl.

Tear it up Carl!

How did things go? Hope you had a good time.

So, how did you do?

I have been searching the interwebz for meet results but can’t find any

Thanks for checking in everyone.

For the first time in many years, I didn’t have to do anything special to make weight. My weight has been between 83 and 85 for months. Weighed in at 84.5

Warmups went well. Especially in snatch I usually have a hard time, not being patient and getting warm and ready too soon. Missed my first snatch at 92. Plenty of height, but left it out front. Hamstring was not happy. This left me a little conservative minded for the next two attempts, Went up to 94 instead of the planned 96 for my second attempt and nailed it. 98 on the third was also very solid. This left me in good shape, since the next best snatch by anyone in my weight class was 88.

Because my knee has been wonky, I planned to do a power clean on my clean and jerk opener at 110. 105 went up easily in warmups, and 110 was no problem for my first attempt. Went to the planned 114 on the second attempt. hamstring screamed on the way up and knee screamed when I caught it, but the clean was very solid. The jerk was a little too far back, but stayed up. The clean at 118 on my third attempt went just like the 114, painful but easy and solid. I started passing out before I got set for the jerk and ended up just dropping it.

Don Wasson, the guy with the 88 snatch made things interesting by getting 111 on his first clean and jerk, then setting his next attempt at 120, just enough to take first place. When I got 114 on my second attempt, he upped his second attempt to 124. After I missed the 118, he now had two tries at 124 for the win.
His first try at 124 he made a very hard clean, then took forever before the jerk and didn’t get very close. On his final attempt the clean was much more solid, but still took a long time preparing for the jerk and missed again.

Most impressive thing I saw was a perfect 96kg clean and jerk by a 39 year old 69kg woman lifter on Friday.

DUDE!

I’m always impressed with you guys who have the guts to take it to the platform. Nice work.

You’re just too DAMN modest.

Say you won Carl, go on say it.

Say “I WON”.

Great job.

Sorry about the knee, but congrats, Carl!

Kent, you really ought to give it a try. Even if you don’t lift much, it’s a rush.

Congratulations Carl. That is truly effing awesome. How do the hammie and the knee feel today?

Carl, I hate to sound like a broken record, but you are the man. You won, with a tweaked hamstring no less. Not only was no luck needed, bad luck was overcome. Congratulations, really really impressive.

p.s. So the vaunted Michael Harada heard you were competing and couldn’t compete because he was injured?

p.p.s. Maybe one of the bolder denizens of the ol’ Fogies home needs to start a thread in the OL forum to give Carl his due? :-))

Impressive work. Nice win.
