Maple Syrup Strength (littlesleeper)

BBQ is always a carnivore winner. I feel fortunate to be in TX now, where great BBQ is everywhere. 1lb of brisket, 1lb pork belly and I’m good for the day.

AirDyne 10mins, 104cals

Keeping this 10cal/min pace is a solid effort for me. I usually keep this pace for 2.5mins as my warmup, but had to dig a little to keep up for the full 10mins.

I was quite warm heading into this one after an hour of weed eating, and some gardening work.

OHP
165 x 1
185 x 1
205 x 1
225 x 1
235 x 1
235 x 1

This last set was pretty darn close to RPE10, thought 245 was going to be my top set but played it smart. No missed reps, but this was a little more grindy than it should have been.

Axle Deadlift
345 x 1
385 x 1
435 x 1
455 x 1
475 x 1
500 x 1

All good smooth pulls. Lots more in the tank, but just easing into it (Easy Strength).

Front Squat
245 x 1
275 x 1
295 x 1
315 x 1
335 x 1
365 x 1

365 nearly rolled me forward back in May (although it was a paused squat), so it was nice to hit a clean rep with this weight. More in the tank.

Sandbag to Shoulder
150 x 2
200 x 2
250 x 2

I tackled the 250lb bag, and the camera must make me stronger because it felt pretty good today. Just hit it for a double.

I had some solid energy coming into this one. The singles workout took me a little longer than the usual 2x5, but still all done in under an hour.
I’m happy with where my strength is considering my inconsistent working out over the past few months and my diet change. Maybe I’m not lean enough yet to start noticing feeling “flat” without the carbs. My pump still seems to be there.

Salmon fried in butter, with (of course) salt:

Sheesh, that salmon doesn’t look very appetizing now that I’m seeing it on my PC. It was delicious and much more of a pink colour than what came through in the photo.

A “tonic” workout following the heavier singles from yesterday, just getting some reps in.

Energy was low coming into this one. Hoping to slip in an afternoon nap when our youngest goes down for his! Rainy day out today, was working on cleaning up the garage for most of the morning for our son’s bday party next weekend.

Dinner was two steaks cooked on the smoker. While they were cooking I consumed 3 eggs. Such a delicious “diet”.

I may have cheated a bit today with a few freshly picked black caps, but less than 10 consumed. The kids were eating them by the handful! If only the deer flies weren’t so bad, it would make picking them much more enjoyable.

Happy Canada Day all!

Easy Strength Week 3 Option 2
A bit of a unique option presented for week 3 in Dan’s Even Easier Strength book.

Push Press
185 x 2
205 x 2
225 x 2
245 x 2
265 x 2

”Litvinovs” - basically a squat followed by a sprint pattern. This was a version I heard Dan discussing in a YouTube video.

4 Rounds of:
65lb KB x 10 Goblet Squats
Sled Sprint x 20yards (empty - in grass)
5 pushups
Sled Sprint x 20yards

Heart rate was up, and lungs were tested. A great quad pump from this little circuit.
My oldest came out and joined in for the first circuit. He did goblet squats with 5lbs and pushed his Little Tykes car across the yard with me. His water guns were more interesting than doing another round with me lol.

We had a BBQ to go to this afternoon, so I made sourdough bread as our contribution (which disappeared rather quickly). I brought my water and ate 2 plain burger patties. Then a friend of mine was about to toss her burger (eyes bigger than her stomach), so I stole that burger patty before it went in the trash.

With the discard from the sourdough bread making, I made a sourdough pizza for the family for lunch. I will be honest, I would have loved to have a piece! But I had my steak and ate a couple pieces of old cheddar to get that cheese fix.

Thats just outstanding. Way to be a great role model.

Wow, I woke up twice in the night after extremely vivid dreams about cheat meals!
First, I was eating chips, and just kept telling myself “one more chip” until the bag was gone (I’ve been guilty of this a number of times).
Second, I was consuming a seemingly never-ending piece of ice cream cake. I was feeling guilty eating it in my dream, and knew I’d have to confess to my TNation friends.
I woke up relieved that it was just a dream. Apparently my willpower to resist cravings is not as strong while sleeping. This must be an indicator of some major gains or adaptations that are taking place! lol

A nice little 2km walk to start the day as I dropped off our van for an oil change and new tires, and then proceeded to my office on foot. Once the van is ready later today, I’ll be hiking my way back there for pickup.

Thanks! He does like joining me for a few minutes during a workout and picking up a few things, doing a couple pushups/squats, and then heading out. That’s still a LOT earlier than I was ever exposed to working out/lifting.

I have these same dreams, and I’ve heard others do as well. I had them prior to carnivore as well: back when I would cut weight for competitions.

Along with waking up relieved, check this out: I bet you could actually TASTE those things in your dream, yeah? I know I can. I wake up THANKFUL from those dreams as a result. Think how cool that is: you got a free cheat meal essentially.

It’s so cool your kiddo is getting exposed to all that so young. It’s so hard for me that mine has NO interest in any of that stuff, haha. I’m like “I have a FULLY stocked garage gym that you could use at ANY point and transform yourself. I would have KILLED for this at your age!”

I’m glad to be in good company.

I absolutely could, it’s wild what the mind can do! Who needs real cheat meals when you can do it in your dreams.

I’ve been curious of this as well, wondering if they will be at all interested in it as they get older. I was in grade 9 when I stepped into a weight room for the first time.

I really like that your entire family is taking Tang Soo Do. I would like to try something like that as my kids get older, and my wife has also expressed some interest. Martial Arts does not seem to be overly available/popular in my area, but there are a couple BJJ/Muay Thai within a 30min drive from my house (youngest age they accept is 7 - so still a couple years away to consider the options).

Breakfast (ran out of eggs this morning - need to stock back up). We have 8 chickens, my Dad has 30. So when my hens don’t keep up with my egg consumption, I still have access to good free range eggs (and right next door)!

Week 3 Workout - Even Easier Strength

LEFT HAND ONLY! - seriously, my right hand did not touch a weight!

SUPERSET x 4
Waiter Walk
53lb KB x 30s
Suitcase Walk
65lb KB x 30s

SUPERSET x 4
Single Arm Front Squat
65lb KB x 10
Suitcase Deadlift
155lb DB x 5 (this was quite difficult for me!)

SUPERSET x 4
One Arm Row on Double D Handle
5 (these were no easy task)
image
One Arm DB Bench Press
50lb x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10

This was a great core/trunk workout with this one, really challenging my ability to maintain a good body position through some of these movements. Right hand only workout later in the week!

I found it interesting to complete an entire workout using only 1 hand, as typically if I perform a unilateral movement I would “balance” it out during that same workout with the opposing side. This balance is accounted for with a second workout later in the week but really allows you to hammer that one side during each session.

A bit of an insatiable appetite today. Good thing I had lots of ground beef prepared and eggs to snack on throughout the day.

209.0lbs, new low for me. Still feeling good on this diet! This feels a lot easier than I thought it would be. Other restrictive diets don’t seem to turn off cravings as well or quickly as this has seemed to.

Pushed the press hard earlier in the week, so this one was more geared to just getting in some good work.

”Litvinovs”

4 Rounds of:
65lb KB x 10 Goblet Squats
Sled Sprint x 20yards (empty - in grass)
10 pushups
Sled Sprint x 20yards

These abused my lungs again, slightly less of a quad pump than earlier in the week.

Went out for dinner with family for my son’s birthday. Ordered 12oz of Texas Brisket, plain. It was delicious - $5/3oz. Which seems expensive, but I would most certainly have had two beers with dinner, so dinner ended up cheaper overall and so much more delicious!

Also made a little pot roast again.

It’s really just a VERY different way to live. There’s no going back for me as a result. I went from snacking every 30 minutes to FINALLY being satiated.

Way to get to yes for the family dinner, and happy birthday to your son!

Thanks Pwn, it’s not as difficult as one might think!
And thank you, he had a full birthday weekend with friends and family and was very excited.

A lot of outdoor work, and entertaining friends and family throughout the weekend.
It’s interesting how this diet has shifted my “food guilt”. I ate too much cheese off the meat platter, when the meat was depleted. I ate two chicken nuggets off my son’s plate that he didn’t finish, and I ate a handful of fresh picked berries.

That’s as far as I have strayed from the carnivore diet over the past 19 days. I’m feeling great, no issues with digestion, energy levels are consistent (much more energy in the evenings), and getting visibly leaner while maintaining performance in the gym.
