I had a few adult beverages on the weekend with friends who came over to spend time on the lake. My diet has remained carnivore still. I did shoot up 2lbs the morning after. I still feel great, and plan to continue this eating style, but may blend it into more of a āCarnivore Lightā.
I will put together a separate post regarding my experience over the last 25 days on the Carnivore diet and what my plans are moving forward. Spoiler alert: Positive experience, some changes incoming, lots of lessons learned.
Really excited to give this a read and see how your transition goes. Been such a fan of your log.
25 Days of The Carnivore Diet
(A little pressed for time, so pardon my blunt, somewhat point form notes - but I wanted to get it written out before too much time has passed)
Summary of Diet
Meat - Primarily beef (ground, steak, jerky), pork (tenderloin, bacon, rinds, pepperettes), fish (salmon)
Eggs - 4-10 eggs daily
Dairy - Milk (limited), cheese (used as a condiment on eggs and sometimes steak)
Butter - Used to cook eggs, and also as condiment on steak/pork; Iām not sure if it is placebo effect, but Grass Fed Butter tastes a LOT better than the standard/cheap butter. This is a new purchase for me, and will continue moving forward.
Carbonated Water - Via SodaStream
Salt - Pink Himalayan, this was added to most meals
Supps:
Electrolytes - Daily, sometimes twice per day
Magnesium Bisglycinate - Before bed (was not overly consistent with this one)
Fish Oil - Often taken with Mag Bi
Vit D - When I remembered
Experience
Weight Loss:
I experienced a relatively quick drop in weight over the first few days, and continued a downward trend until hitting 6.2lbs of weight loss.

Physique:
The fastest improvements that I have seen in physique of all diets that Iāve attempted (Keto, Vegan, 5/2 Diet, āGreen Facesā, modified V-Diet, etc.). 25 day progress photo below.
Performance:
No noticeable reduction in strength while working in a caloric deficit. A more sustained energy curve throughout the day. I was not seeing my usual evening crash while attempting to wrestle my boys into their bedtime routine, allowing me to be a much more pleasant father and better handle the chaos.
I would say that I had some moderate ābrain fogā during the first few days. Iām not sure if this was adjusting to the near-zero carbs, or more likely the fact that I cut coffee/caffeine consumption cold-turkey for this challenge.
Digestion:
This was a common warning when scouring the internet for information/experiences of others on The Carnivore Diet. Complaints ranged from severe diarrhea to constipation. TMI, but I experienced neither of these. There may have been two days where things werenāt perfect, but for the most part digestion was great! Near zero flatulence over the 25 days (which isnāt normal for me!), and the frequency and volume of bowel movements decreased by over 50%.
Next Steps/Wrap Up
Huge lessons learned here. I can not only survive, but THRIVE consuming only meat/animal-based products. This is going to be a plan in my back pocket, and likely be implemented for a month or two per year to ācleanseā and/or drop a few lbs. I ordered a 1/4 beef from a local farm, but while it was being prepared the local abattoir burned to the ground resulting in a shortage of local beef as farmers must ship their beef away to get processed now, rather than using this local service. Iām still looking for a local source, but it may be delayed due to this very unfortunate occurrence. Costco for now!
I did not become tired of only eating these few foods (Iām a simple guy), but I do miss my morning coffee, hot sauce on my eggs, and some fruit. I also enjoy sharing adult beverages with friends and family, but will be more selective on the many opportunities that present themselves in my social network.
I have also been looking back through Stan Efferdingās Vertical Diet, which (IMO) shares a lot of similarities to The Carnivore Diet while adding some variety and addressing some potential drawbacks of the full restriction from plant-based products. This brings me some additional comfort, as I still have some minor worries (whether warranted or not) about potential long-term effects of full elimination of certain food groups/types.
Overall:
Would I recommend: Yes.
Will I do this again: Yes (before my trip to Mexico in January).
Thanks for the inspiration to give it a go @T3hPwnisher.
Nice work, cool write up.
Iām interested to see how you weave in the Vertical Diet. Iāve been messing around with that this summer. Once I got into it, it almost seemed like Carnivore + an orange, yogurt and some cranberry juice.
I totally agree about the importance of energy for bed time!
How did you like the 1 sided workout? Thatās some crazy stuff from Dan John I read about years ago and never tried. Like Litvinovs.
Outstanding write up dude! You had an awesome experience there and some great lessons learned/ones to pass on to others. The fact you cut caffeine cold turkey as well is outstanding and worth appreciating how you could effectively detox while you were running through this. Some awesome physique improvements too in such a short time.
This is the truth! Iāll admit that I find grain finished meat yummier than grass finished, and tend to eat the latter simply because itās healthier, but with dairy it really IS much better on grassfed cattle vs grainfed. Milk, butter, cheese, sour cream, etc. Itās the same with eggs: an egg from a pasture raised chicken is just SO much better.
Nice write up and some excellent results.

All done in 22mins including warmup.
Thank you Pwn!
This was one of the biggest āwinsā of this trial. I truly enjoy these fitness experiments, as I almost always take SOMETHING away from the experience. There are many takeaways from the Carnivore Diet, and I intend to rerun this soon. Steak and eggs will always hold a special place in my nutrition though, hard to beat it!
We are very fortunate to have our own pasture-raised hens, with (nearly) unlimited access to eggs.
Thank you Simo, hope all is well with you!
A little āmonster mashā via Stan Efferdingās Vertical Diet.
Some stuffed, bacon-wrapped jalapeƱo poppers (peppers fresh from the garden).
A Costco flat of chicken thighs on the smoker (I may have forgotten them, and slightly overcooked them - fortunately thighs are much more forgiving than breasts - chicken, that is).

After the last two workouts Iāve noticed a little soreness, and now swelling in the area of what would be a inguinal hernia.
Iām assuming this could have resulted from jumping into my workouts cold and at relatively high weights (I loved the time savings, but my body might need a little more warmup than I was giving it).
I donāt think I have a hernia, but rather some warning signs to make some adjustments. Iāve been on Easy Strength for nearly two months, which is often the time I switch things up anyways.
Enter Gamma Bomb, by John Meadows. Iāll hit some more bodybuilding style workouts with more focus on mind-muscle connection, and less on strength. Iām hopeful this will give me a little chance to heal up while providing that bodybuilding stimulus that I havenāt had in awhile.

Huge pump, my chest and shoulders were trashed by the end of this one!
Wow, it has been a long time since Iāve had DOMS this bad. My chest is extremely tight. I hope to slip in my leg workout this afternoon, but Iām not looking forward to the leg DOMS that will likely occur following this increased targeted volume!
On a side note, we had one of our more entertaining lob-ball games last night. We are in 3rd place in this league, and top 4 are all within a couple of points of one another. We were down 3 runs in the top of the last inning (we were away, so did not have the last at bat) with two out. A teammate of mine hit a 2-run homer to bring us within one. Our next two batters hit singles, and then I hit a 3-run homer to take a 2-run lead, which we held through the bottom of the inning to win.
This is only lob-ball, but the come from behind victory was a fun one. Tournament is Aug 17th which is always a fun, social event.
