Dude that sounds awesome lol That’s what movies are for. If I wanted to think I’d read a book[/quote]

Lol, In theory I’d wholeheartedly agree with you. That’s why I shelled out money for ‘The Man with the Iron Fists’ by RZA a couple of years back. Damn how I wanted to love that film. Unfortunately there can be a huge difference in a concept in theory and in its execution.

The man with the Iron Fists was a huge disappointment. Django Unchained more than made up for it though.

Okay I watched it on Netflix just now and sated my curiosity. I thought it was a really cool movie.

I feel very strongly in saying anyone who hates this movie is someone I could never be friends with.

It’s on Netflix?

Come on man, it’s just a movie. It’s not like the difference between the Beatles and The Who.

FTR, I like The Who.

The movies I consider to be masterpieces are the folllowing

and

The Japanese just have a way of making you not just thirst for revenge but demand it.

Nice. Gonna go real old school here,… I used to show Kurosawa’s Hidden Fortress to my Film students. Most certainly not the direction, choreography, or just basic film making that people these days are used to.

Ah jeeze. The Beatles, huh? Well, McCartney did sound pretty good the other night at the Grammys.

Can’t we all just get along and like them both.

Spent many a Saturday glued to Channel 11 (in NY) for ‘Kung Fu theater’ as a child. As an adult, being able to track down old favorites (36 chambers of Shaolin for the win!) on DVD just gets me all giddy.

The late 70s/early 80s is the golden era for me. In saying that, the movie that wet my lips for the genre was Fist of Legend, which was made in the 90s?

Was a big fan of Sammo Hung movies. The right blend of bonecrunching violence with a sprinkling of woeful comedy. Always good to watch a guy that size, move with the grace of a Russian ballerina.

But so was everyone else.

This isn’t Iron Fist.

There’s actually a completed script for a sequel, although I will give props to RZA for acknowledging that he won’t be directing it should it eventually receive financial backing.

Fuck the Beatles.

Trust me, you would like this movie. I could see drinking a beer with you so it must be so.

Well that speaks volumes for him, it takes a big man to recognize where his weakness’s are.

The wife and I will be checking it out tomorrow night.

I do put martial arts movies into a class by themselves and have always liked them since the Kung-Fu Theater days. I even had 2 official “Game of Death” pairs of nunchacku, which I used to beat myself to a pulp.

Even a bad one is still pretty damn good, and some of the worse ones are even better.

Started watching Man of Tai Chi two minutes ago …

Get back to you in 2 hours

EDIT: I thought is was good. I liked. Not the best Martial Arts movie I have ever seen but it was certainly entertaining. The fight scenes in the tournament were better than the ‘underground’ ones though and that seemed a bit odd.

I like Keanu as the bad guy too.

there are few comparisons that come close to the wing chun fighting, artistry and history in “The Legend is Born: Ip Man.” i realize a lot of it is fictional with artistic liberties taken to a grand scale.

i’m old enough to have had an original enter the dragon movie poster on my bedroom wall in the 70’s, so i’ve seen many of these movies come and go. i have also been a student of wing chun.

there are two or three movies about ip man also known as Yip Man. he is most famous for teaching a teenage bruce lee wing chun. i felt “The Legend is Born: Ip Man” was tops in many ways.
