I forgot who recommend it, but since switching to a 55%P/25%C/20%F Macro ratio and following JB’s nutrient partitioning, I feel much stonger, I’m making steady LBW gains and fat losses and I feel better. For the person who reccomended the ratio (or others); I recently found from reading the Forum that these are close to the ratios that Serrano recommends. I am simply not familiar with his work. Anyone with any thoughts on his rational for such ratios? Keeping protein high, and fat “reasonable” makes sense…
Dr. Serrano is mentioned often on this site, but a “Google” search seems to only bring up sites where he has commented OR been an advisor. So…if anybody could give me a brief speil on him and his work…AND the rational behind his macro ranges (which are working GREAT for me!)…that would be great. THANKS!
Mufasa my man,
The way I tend to view this is as follows. Protein is a very inefficient fuel source. Therefore the more protein you eat, the more calories you burn digesting it(Thermic Effect of Food a la Massive Eating Part 1). The abundance of amino acids that result are very anabolic/anti-catibolic. Fat is burned at higher rates because of an increase in fat burning enzymes that result from a higher dietary fat intake. This combined with the low carbs shifts your body onto burning fat as a primary fuel source. I follow a similar diet and found that it worked like a charm for about 12 weeks more or less and then effectiveness tapered off. JMB’s recommendations are a revolution for me. I’ll never eat any differently.
As far as Serrano goes, I hear from the threads on the Forum that he doesn’t publish much at all because he’s so busy in R&D. I would like more info on his theories.
BigRob: OUTSTANDING! Makes sense too. There is also the point that I’ve often heard on the Forum about “never” going less than 20% on fat because of it’s positive effect on Endocrine (hormonal) function. I tell you…these ratios combined with JB’s Nutrient Partitioning/Massive Eating is really working out for me…
As mentioned...anything more that anyone has to add about Serrano's theories (especially protein and macro ratio's)would be great. (I understand that there may be a T-Mag/Article in the works, or is that rumor?)
