I really like the “Don’t Diet” diet by JMB, especially the “Taper” method. It has been much more succesful for me than ketogenic approaches. My question is concerning the p+f meals and attaining maximum fat loss. What have people(ahem, ahem JM Berardi) found to be the best ratio’s of p:f meals for fat loss? Is a higher fat lower protein approach (i.e. 70%fat to 30%protein) better or vice a versa? My concern with keeping the protein higher is that it may have a higher insulin response and I would think that during the non carb meals you would want to minimize this, thus opting for a higher fat:protein ratio. Also, if ones calories are restricted due to less activity and lower LBM or as calories are reduced during the course of the diet (should this be neccessary) should the protein dominate the fat in those meals due to lowered caloric allotement requiring one to prioritize the protein over the fat so that adequate amounts may be taken in while still keeping cals in check? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
Ive just finished an appetite for construction article on this topic. Stay tuned for the details.
John, thanks for the response. However, would it be allright if you gave me a hint or two at this time, since I am very time constrained. For example maybe just which way my p:f meals should lean…majority protein or fat? Thank you in advance.
I think i might be able to help you with this a bit. I know Dr. Eric Serrano preaches that no more then 50 grams of protein per meal be consumed…it’s probably + or - 15 to 20 grams depending on the size of the individual and digestive system but basically any more then this and you’re burning the protein for energy instead of fat. So just figure out how many calories you’re gonna need to eat per meal…For example…600 is a good figure for a 180-200 lb guy…Now if you want to shoot for 50 grams of protein that’s 200 calories worth and that gives you 400 calories worth of fat which equals about 44 grams of fat. Hope this helps
Kelly, that’s an interesting point concerning protein quantity consumption. Does he say how long you should wait between servings?
Yes I believe he recommends the basic “protein every 3 hours” consumption.
Thanks Kelly. I thought Nate Dogg would have an opinion on my original question, since he wrote up a rather good thread on this forum about “Don’t Diet”.
