Machida v. Thiago Silva

UFC.com is saying that this fight is confirmed for UFC 89 in England (thereby improving on the suckfest main event that was Bisbing v. Leben). Your thoughts?

It’s shit he deserves a title shot.

who deserves a title shot?

machida has only beat tito who is well past being ranked as a top fighter who is the only half decent fighter hes beat since beating a fat bj penn in 2005 and before that rich franklin in 2003. and that means he deserves a title shot?

thiago has beat even less credible fighters such as houston alexander and james irvin.

in my opinion neither deserve a title fight and i would not even say this fight cuts it as a number 1 contender fight.

Good addition to the card. I’ll definitely make the effort to go see Machida.

Bisbing v. Leben might end up being a decent fight but, its hardly main event material…

Machida deserves a title shot. But this will definitely be a fight I will be looking forward to.

Machida is a cool guy and everything, but doesn’t deserve a title shot until he actually starts fighting. (Yes, yes, I know, highly technical, ELUSIVE, blah blah)

This is going to be a good one. I think Machida takes it.
Anyone else see the recent James Irvin interview on MMAweekly where he talks about how “overrated” Thiago Silva is?..

I don’t see Silva as much of a threat. To beat Machida you have to have great footwork, ability to cut off space, quickness across the gap, and good, accurate, technical strikes. Silva is more of a sloppy brawler. I think he’ll pursue and pursue and pursue the whole fight. Machida will use angles to avoid damage, and counter with a shot or two before moving again. Silva will get frusterated. Machida by 3 rd TKO or decision.

i would like to see machida fight one of the following before i would consider him for a title shot:

rampage
liddell
shogun
wanderlei
franklin(again)
spider

i simply feel theres at least another fight to be had before a title shot plus i feel machida vs forrest would be abit of a boring fight

Lyoto Machida by pwnage. You can’t stop his march to the title. All will wilt before the power of Shotokan.

I don’t think Anderson will be fighting for the LHW title:

I also think that he will be the champ as soon as he gets the opportunity to fight for it.

this is a shame i personaly think this fight would have been one for the record books and a hell of a chess match in terms of tack ticks

Sorry Machida does deserve a shot who else in that weight class does? He is undefeated more than any other light heavy has done so far.

granted he is still undefeated but lets face it his biggest win is against tito and when was he last considered a contender for the title? he beat a fat and much smaller bj penn and franklin years ago. i would like to see him fight a genuine contender before fighting for the title

i must say im not taking away from machida’s skills and ability but surely it makes sence to put him in with a living legend test him and if he comes through with another win then by all means put him in against who ever the champ is at the time

Your missing my point other than Rampage who deserves a shot at Forrest certainly not the winner of Lidell Evans. Evans had a draw with Tito and Chuck beating Wanderlei should not put him into title contention.

I never would have guessed that would be your prediction!

I think this should be a good fight, Silva is usually coming forward and since he hits hard he always has the “puncher’s chance”… but Machida should take it.

Looking forward to it though.

I dont think he’s missing your point, I think it’s just a classic case of one guy supporting an undefeated (against inferior competition) vs someone supporting a better-tested, but beaten

At the very least it represents a step in the right direction for both of them. And heaven forbid that rashad pull the upset
