Btw were you using strong bands?
Yeah, those are the only ones I have other than the pro monster mini’s, for now. Eventually I’ll get more of a variety though
Cool. Variety will be nice some time in the future, but for now I’m quite happy with my 4 avg bands and 1 mini band
This trainer chick was next to me last night with a client, using a band of some sort. When I noticed that as I walked up, I thought “Oh, she’s going to love this” and bam, I start climbing all over the cage rigging up my shit. She gave me a very strange look, it was great, I love being “different”
LOL. I can just imagine the myriad of weird looks that could be received when trying to rig bands to a power rack.

EDIT: Btw do you ever find it awkward/difficult/annoying to load weight when you do reverse band work?

All of the above, actually. For DL’s I’ll usually put the j-hooks around where I’d pull the bar from for shrugs or something, so that there’s really no tension there and load up 225, then set the bar on the ground, and add more weight.

For bench, I set it up with the same idea, but the unloaded bar just wants to float around so you gotta weigh it down first before creating the tension

Cool, just making sure I wasn’t making any harder than it needed to be.

holy volume batman!!!

That was quite the workout. I was tired just from reading it. First time putting up 300+? Niiiiiiiiice! Get some

Keeping your elbows in felt good in the dips? Do you have the adjustable handles on your little dip station or no? I always keep my elbows in and lean forward to try to hit the chest more.

The handles can flip in (the way I did them, to hit tri’s more) or out. In the past I hadn’t really paid attention to what my elbows did, I just went down far enough, but now they’ll bug me if I let them wander so I kept 'em tight and they felt good. I’ll add weight again next week.

And yeah, even with bands on the bar, first time I’ve unracked and held 300+, felt awesome

Challenge accepted. The most I’ve RB benched was 315 for a triple. I will have to try and beat your 345.
Bring it on, sucka. I’m going to keep it as an ME exercise for atleast another couple of weeks before changing it up and then going back around to it later. It’s awesome.

Diluted, thanks man, it IS epic! You’re in South Africa eh? I’m coming to blast up some of your fine plains game animals in 5 weeks!
Planning on having 30-60 degree F weather then, that sound about right? Going to search the slipknot vs beiber now…

Mother fuck.

And also…

FML, I need more metal now…

aaahhhh…MUCH better

Fucking brilliant

Damn that’s a lot of volume and some heavy weight on Reverse Band Bench Press. You sure you don’t want to train like a bodybuilder? haha. Good work though man!

I feel like I wouldn’t get much out of reverse bands on bench, as I most often fail 8 or so inches off the chest, so making the lift hardest in that range would only make me more likely to fail.

Reverse band bench is how you get better at that sticking point…you are able to get more weight that that point and overload the lockout, rather than wear yourself out with the lower portion.

x a mother fucking billion! That’s the point man, LWI!

Remember when I said my chest wasn’t very sore this morning…scratch that!

I LOVE ANIMALS AS LEADERS!!!

Great work on the reverse band bench. I’d say give it a while before you come back to that move for ME, but if you’re into it and want to hit it again, go for it I guess. From the video it looked like you’re not really squeezing the lats before you start the movement, are you feeling that by any chance?

Also, that Animals as Leaders song shreds! First saw it on the Brutal PL Music thread. Def a ME lift song.

July 30th dutifuly noted on my calendar.

and grunting during deads are suppa sexah

and fuckin awesome on the banded bench.

Nice videos Inky.

I know nothing about bands, but I see the logic. I’ve been wondering about practicing my DLs from some risers because it’s the “glued to the floor” part that gets me.

The Africa trip sounds amazing. It’s very cool that you have 3 generations of men in your family who can do that together. Maybe the Ink has some longetivity in his genes. Very nice.

WTG bro!!

LWI fo sho…

Thanks Major, I’d like to hit them again maybe once, and try to feel more lat activation. I feel like I’m squeezing them, maybe they’re just to puny it doesn’t act like it! I’ll work on it, thanks though.

And I might have even been the one that put Animals as Leaders up in that thread, they’re awesome. My brother, the luthier who no longer builds guitars (long story) actually built both guitar players in that band some kick ass 8-strings that they can no longer play on tour since signing with Ibanez.

Mainy, I might do the August 10th one, is the same fed as the one I’m already a member of, so it saves me a few bucks. I don’t even notice the grunt when I perform the lift, I think i go into auto-pilot or something. Band bench…try it

Thanks Puff, I’m loving the variations of lifts that powerlifting has brought to light for me. It’s an awesome sport, you should try it  And yeah, it’s going to be cool going to Africa with 3 generations of “Ink”, the only downside is missing my daughter’s 5th b-day, but she understands “It’s ok daddy, you’re going to be in Africa” tear!

MiM, LWI or DIE!

Ok, tonight’s a planned DE lower, so I’ll look to hit band squats for speed, some 3-5 rep GM’s, 3-5 rep RDL’s, the BW GHR’s (still can’t add weight on these yet), and some size inducing quad/ham work like more leg pressing/leg extensions/sissy squats maybe, and leg curls too. Oh, and also blast my HYUUUGE 15.5" calves…(Whatcha got on THAT, GREG?!)

Sore as a mofo today

LWI

Getting the lats tight seems to be a pretty elusive thing. But once you get them tight and keep them that way your bench really feels stable. Coach told me to imagine bending the bar by pulling the lats down. The 66 yo. guy in our gym also says he feels he can bench higher numbers when he puts the weight into his lats more, and he benches over 500 so I’ll take his advice! I doubt it’s because your lats are “puny” it’s just a technique thing. The more I’ve been doing this PL stuff the more I realize that technique really plays a huge part in putting up bigger numbers.

I saw that story about your bro in the Brutal Music thread, that’s a pretty awesome trade to be in. Is this the guitar he made?
