Lusitania: The Best Kept Secret

"But now divers have revealed a dark secret about the cargo carried by the Lusitania on its final journey in May 1915.
Munitions they found in the hold suggest that the Germans had been right all along in claiming the ship was carrying war materials and was a legitimate military target.

"Winston Churchill, who was first Lord of the Admiralty and has long been suspected of knowing more about the circumstances of the attack than he let on in public, wrote in a confidential letter shortly before the sinking that some German submarine attacks were to be welcomed.
He said: 'It is most important to attract neutral shipping to our shores, in the hope especially of embroiling the U.S. with Germany.
‘For our part we want the traffic - the more the better and if some of it gets into trouble, better still.’ "

The 20th century was a century of deception and lies by our leaders.

Like the 19th, 18th, 17th, etc.

It’s a good thing.

And every other century preceding those from the dawn of time. I have to laugh when people are surprised about secrets and conspiracies. Wouldn’t it be far more surprising if they didn’t exist. Get real.

It’s understandable. What exactly was Churchill supposed to think when his country was on the verge of ass rape by Germany? The more allies the better.

Anyone remember the quote, “if you’re in a fair fight, you’ve done something wrong.”

I would have done the same. The Germans were trying to get the Americans to side with them as well. Everybody knew that whoever the Americans sided with, would win the war. They were an untouched industrial giant. I would have done ANYTHING to get them to join me if I were in that position.

Tell me again, exactly what position would you be in?

The Germans tried to get the Mexicans to invade the US.

Wow, this is interesting. It doesn’t exactly change much, but it is interesting.

In a stalemate struggle against a country just as powerful as my own. I’d do anything to get the yanks on my side.

Don’t be changing what I said!

Putting women and children, all non-combatants, in a boat and hoping the Germans sink said boat is rather criminal, no?

Britain needed money to finance the war. The U-boats were taking a very heavy toll, with food supplies down to 6 weeks in Britain. British war bonds were not selling well anymore because Germany was winning. So Churchill made this decision. He became a murderer.

JP Morgan may have had a hand in this as well. He was the agent in the USA for selling British war bonds. If those bonds lost value, JP and his buddies would lose millions. Hmmm…millions of dollars…or innocent lives? Hmmm…

No one is innocent.

Take 'em all.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending his actions. I don’t think it’s right, but I believe if I had the choice I would eventually make the same one, though it would certainly reign on my concience for the rest of my life.

All is fair in love and war.

I don’t think my fiancee would be impressed with me letting a boat full of people to be a bait. I don’t know about Churchill.

Point well spoken. I’m sure that he considered it a price worth paying, which is why he was where he was. An ordinary person would be less likely to use people as pawns in international politics.

Did you know Sir Winston was a Druid, btw? Interesting creature…

Governments lie? Thanks guys, I won’t be able to get out of bed all day now.

Have any of you read the book OJB (operation james bond)
Its a supposably true story about a world war two english spy (the author), who, among other things, tipped off the germans about an attack on the french coast, an attack which was set up in order to gain the germans trust. It lead to the death of about two thousand british deaths (the author claims) and was sanctioned by Winston Churchill himself. If the book is true then Churchill knew (and was behind) many underhand lies and deception that resulted in death.

Thats if the story is true…

I haven’t read that but I do recall an attack at a place called Dieppe (I think). Is that the focus of the OJB book?

I would put nothing past Sir Winston. He worshipped trees, not the sanctity of human life.

Oh Dieppe happened. It was a slaughter fest, especially for Canadians. I think we lost more men that day than the other countries involved in that invasion. Apparently it was only there to appease Joseph the dirty commie who was saying that the allies were doing nothing to stop the German tide in Russia.
