Lumbago

Anyone on this site ever had Lumbago (low back pain) for longer than 2 months. I hurt my back over 2 months ago dnt know how , but then i worsened it by heavy deadlifting. ever since ive stopped deadlifting heavy and basically i only train the odd time.

The thing is i can squat heavy without any pain ATG and deadlift light weights up to 140 150kg for loads of reps and no pain occurs. its gets sore when sitting for long hours and stretching it by flexion and i assume heavy deadlifting would hurt it again.

anyone any suggestings or advice from experience?

Go see a Doc asap, dont mess with your spine, if it hurts get it checked out dude!

Im a PT, CSCS in Florida. Man, if it is killing you two months after injury, get to a doctor and ask him to send you to physical therapy. Find someone who knows the Mckenzie method of treatment for low back pain (LBP). This is especially important if you’ve had radiating pain into one or both legs. They will be able to assess the dysfunction and get you headed in the right direction for recovery. I push the Mckenzie method pretty hard b/c since January of 2005 when I took the class on the lumbar spine, I’ve had a huge increase in my success rate with treating LBP. im happy to answer questions if you have them.

yeah thanks for the advice, i dont have radiating pain down my legs though.

i have a doctors appointment in 6 days and i will ask him to send me to a specialist but i hear the waiting list is 3 months.

do you think its possible that i slipped a disk even though i can still squat etc?

First of all if its going down both legs, its prob a disc. Does it go into the feet , or does it stop at the knees?

Secondly I dont agree with the LBP/McKenzie generalization and I currently have PT in my office. I do agree with rehab as an adjunctive procedure to help with other procedures. Remember not only are there muscles in there but discs, ligaments and bones.

Finally if I were you and I’m not, I would go see both a DO and possibly a DC who does rehab, possibly … If the DO doesn’t send out for an MRI or at least sechedule for an EMG study to be done…think twice about whom youve gone to.
Good luck with whatever you do.

Ohh and by the way Disc’s cant slip. Theyre in both bones like foundations of houses *ie the fibers attach into the bone. So they can bulge, and herniate, prolapse, etc, but not slip.

Get an MRI.
You may have a herniated disc. Not a major one though, or you wouldn’t even be able to do the weights you are doing.

Anyone can use the Mckenzie exercises without going to the courses. The Mckenzie method uses repetitive movements to regain functional ROM and strength and is backed by 40 years of research. I’m not saying Mckenzie fixes everything, I’m just saying that someone who is certified in Mckenzie has to be worth the trip to talk to.

went to a remedial masseur and hes identified the problem. it is a sacroiliac joint injury.

any of you guys had this injury and did you recover
