Low Volume Before Hypertrophy Phase?

Hi guys, a friend of mine said that before a “Hypertrophy phase” it’s better to train with low volume, so that later your body will be more responsive to a higher volume approach… What do you think about this “theory”?

Like linear or block periodization? Perfectly reasonable most would say.
