has anyone NOT had succes on a low carb diet? ex. fat fast, massive eating, etc. . . if so, what do u think sabotaged your efforts?
massive eating is not a low carb diet…
Low-carb diets WORK.
Period.
(But don’t tell people that!! SHHHH!!! Americans just might put down their cinnabuns and 3-coated glazed donuts and obesity levels in the United States might plummet! Nooo!!!)
they do work…
i think, and this is based only on personal experience and reading anecdotal evidence, that they work better for men.
i haven’t had a lot of success with low carb diets because i absolutely hate them, hate being dizzy and hate having no energy. Eating a moderate amount of them works best…for me.
I tried the fat fast for about 5 and a half weeks. I was beyond strict. I can remember exactly what I ate every day - tuna, flax oil, AP, psyllium husks, chicken and beef. That’s it. And not a single cheat meal.
My calories were exactly what they were supposed to be, as well as all of my macros.
I lost 9 pounds total - and that includes the water weight loss. By the middle of my 5th week I was having cramps in my esophagus and stomach so bad they bent me double. I was nearly unable to drink the shakes, let alone swallow solid food. I gave up and went back to a ‘normal’ diet.
It was a full month before the cramping stopped.
Not every diet works for everyone - my body completely rejected the no carb approach.

In principle they most certainly work. However, there are many confounding variables that can halt fat loss when low-carbing, so it really depends.
Usually carbs.
Yes and no. I’ve used a low carb diet called “The Jeff Diet” many times. It was developed by this little guy, Jeff Rage. Basically, you have nothing but low-carb MRP’s, meat, vegetables, and flax seed oil. And then the weekend was a “cheat weekend.” I’ve lost up to 30 lbs.l of fat using this diet. However, during the Hot Rox Challenge, I used this to go from over 20% bf to 14%, and then the fat loss haulted. I think the main problem was eating too few calories during the week and going overboard on the “cheat weekend.”
So, I went to a lower carb diet - a keto diet based on Vain’s recommendations. Sure enough, the fat loss resumed.
I think that the only time a low-carb diet wouldn’t work on an otherwise healthy person is if the diet were too strict (a la what happened to Michelle). Several people who have tried the fat fast have reported that they just couldn’t keep it up, as it was too limiting. Also, it doesn’t seem like a good choice for women, as you’re supposed to be on an androgen when you try it.
But with a more moderate (and sustainable) approach, keto diets do work. There’s no real question about that.
Try t-dawg 2.0 works greats. Just check
out the search engine. I using it I lost 10pds
in 5weeks. Also I doing 1 carb refeed a week. That seem to kick fat loss in high
gear.
Low carb diets never worked for me - hated the dizziness, couldn’t think straight at work, and all the usual.
But then I tried the Steroid Diet (search engine at left if interested) and all of that went away.
Like char-dawg says “you’re supposed to be on an androgen when you try it.”
Whilst i keep my carbs relative lower than most, (about 30% of my cals)
I tried to keep them even lower and did so for 4 months (about 60g per day)
I found that whilst i lost alot of weight (water mostly ui guess and some fat) My muscles would fatigue very quickly when training compared to when i eat carbs. So for me a very low carb diet of <60g carbs per day didn’t work for me. I have lost more bodyfat following JB’s don’t diet diet keeping carbs between 30-40% of my food intake and keeping carbs mainly after workouts and from veggies and oatmeal.
I experimented some. In the Steroid Diet you’re supposed to get 50g/day if under 200lb bw and 100g/day over 200lb bw. I started at 211, and it didn’t make sense to drop 50g/day because I lost 12 pounds (currently at 199).
Through my food journal I determined that at 80g/day I lost fat, at 120 I maintained, and at less than 76 I just got sick.
Oh, and I make better loss if I don’t forget the flax oil/EFA, too.
I’m on T-Dawg 2 right now, modified to 80g/day off-day, 110g/day on-day.
I can live with that, and work with a functional brain ![]()
I put A girl friend I had a few years back on the anabolic diet. She got cut really fast! The best thing about the low carb diet was she quit PMSing. Before the anabolic diet she was hell to be around once a week.
My current girl cant do without carbs for more then 3 hours. Go figure…
