low box squats

How low is a low box squat? I did them yesterday off a 8 in box, which was pretty much atg depth. I was pretty impressed because last time I did box squats, I used a 18in box, and barely got 300, and this time off a 8 in box I did the same weight but with much better depth.
Thanks

for my low box squats i use any where from a 10-13 inch box im 6 foot and my parrelel box is 15.5…remember that when you do these the use of a clsoe stance also creates a bigger range of motion…bm

question, how do you still sit back with the close stance and low box, and a comment, josh bryant, 700lb 8in box squats…

Yeah I find it hard to “sit back” when doing ME low squat box shoulder width. Nevertheless, i did 295lbs @ 170lbs then the plastic aerobic steppers got banned for the use of box squat the next day with 12 posters posted on the wall warning not to do it again.

for the max eff low box squat you dont sit back like you do with a normal wide stance bx squat…you want it to be more of an olympic squat…bm

What BigM said. Close stance low box squats results in much more weight transfer to your quads and low back. Your ability to sit back will definitely be compromised. What becomes important is keeping your knees out and driving your head into the bar.

From my perspective, the goal becomes learning to keep the lift from becoming a two stage process where your hips come up, momentum slows and the transition point becomes all low back moving you back into a position of reasonable leverage. Hopefully this makes sense.

BM,

Oh thanks for letting me know! That’d make my life a bit easier…
