Low Ab Pain During Lunges/Sprints

I’ve had groin issues for about a year now starting when I took a month off training for a holiday then stupidly went straight into a hard pre-season (Rugby League) and ignored some niggling injuries I managed to get. A few months later I ended up having gilmore’s groin surgery. Despite that I’ve still been laid up since and finally after an MRI it turned out I have early stage osteitis pubis.

My advice having seen more physio’s, doctors, sports masseuses etc than I would ever want to would be to get some imaging done. You won’t know for sure what it is till you get an MRI. Groin injuries are possibly the most persistent of all injuries and not worth taking lightly! If it’s osteistis pubis you need to see a very experienced physio and get them to do a very detailed assessment (internal/external rotation, hip capsule mobility, abdominal tightness, adductor tightness, glute function etc etc).

I was supposed to get shock wave therapy which is a very painful little hammer smashing on your pubic symphisis to cause inflammation that makes it heal more quickly. It’s painful but cuts the healing time from up to 2 years down to 3 months. Other than that another option is prolotherapy which is basically glucose injuections into the area to cause inflammation again. None of this will work of course unless you stop doing the things that are causing the pain (including stiffness hours or the day after) and you must also address the root cause be it weak trans abs, weak glutes, muscle imbalances or all of the above.

There’s also a miracle supplement alled CMO that has worked wonders on arthritis sufferers to heal bone and cartilage tissue. It’s pretty cheap and you only need it for a month or two if it’s going to work for you so might be worth a shot also. Jarrow Formulas, True CMO, 60 Capsules

Good luck hope you get through it soon!
