Spent 2 hours in the gym. Maybe took too long but it was a solid workout. This one didn’t want to start. We didn’t even want to be in the gym but it turned into a great day in the gym.
The dynamic effort work with the percentage being bar weight then adding bands is gonna be fire! Today was challenging and bar speeds were awesome.
We had an amrap challenge to be the weight bitch for the day. I lost again these youngsters are kicking my ass on the amrap sets.
I am still cutting some carbs out of the diet to shed a few pounds. I’m under 260 again thank goodness. I would like to be 250-255 and 12/13% bf but currently I am 18-20% bf and 258.

How long do you rest between exercises on your giant sets? I can’t remember if you rest between every exercise or only after you finish a round of everything.
Another random thought. How do you feel during the giant set where you’re doing the main lift? How’s your energy? How’s your stomach (on the days you don’t puke)?

No rest between exercises in giant sets and 90 seconds between sets.
It depends on the day really. Leg days are more demanding than uppers. Sometimes it feels bad (like death is approaching), sometimes it is just a normal grind. Sometimes I’m ready early, and other days it like hell no when the timer is counting down. But I hook up and get it done anyway.
Stomach is never the issue…just nerves are shot. The music is too loud, the room too small, people are annoying, the nerves are just shot. Sweating heart rate accelerated…like running sprints.
The energy levels are usually good once the blood gets flowing.
This fifth week the emery levels are way lower than week 1. I’m guessing it’s just normal fatigue from training.

On demanding training days (usually squats and deads) I notice my energy drop quickly. I can finish the main work but then I’m shot. I can sense it coming now so I’ll start eating 1 or 2 Starbursts between sets. The simple sugars get in my system quickly and it helps bring my energy back up enough to finish strong. It also helps fight off nausea. I think my sick stomach feeling is usually a result of low blood sugar. I’m not sure scat drops it but I can tell when it gets there.
With my CrossFit WODs I’m eating 5 Starbursts after I finish the workout and within a few minutes I’m good to go.
I was wondering if eating a few during your workout would help you. I never eat more than 5 or 6 during a whole session. I’ll eat them during the last few sets of my main work and that gets me through the next two exercises. Just a thought.
@mortdk I think you ought to try this too since you’re getting crushed on leg day. It might do nothing for you, but it helps me.

Next time I’ll do it. I’m sipping a protein shake during my workouts. Did it with dextrose blended in a while ago, will do it next time ![]()
I heard about it from a co-worker who used to compete in power lifting. I mentioned feeling nauseous when training and he recommended a hard candy. It worked but I bit the candy and it was going to destroy my teeth. Starbursts are much softer but they give the same effect.
I don’t always eat candy but it’s in my gym bag in case I start to fade during a session. It’s also not a bad time to spike your insulin.
I’ve used honey packets in the past for the same effect.
Next thing you know you’ll be shoving Oreos and whole milk down your throat between your Starting Strength workouts

It honestly makes sense - some sugar towards the end of a tough workout could provide the energy you need to push through, and combat the nausea. I used to eat before and during workouts. Now, I wake up a couple hours before I go, eat nothing, have a preworkout, do my workout, have a shake afterwards, and have my first real meal around 1-2pm.
i had a period, at your age actually, when i trained “insanely” hard, at least that’s what i and my surrounding thought, and i could go on and do tougher and tougher workouts. and i also got fatter and bloated, and i felt beaten up between the training sessions. after some time i concluded that that’s not the results i want and i changed my approach and i am now trying to find the minimum that can be called progressive overload. save for a period of flu where i dropped a lot this approach has worked wonders, i still carry most fat tho but my strength increases and most importantly, i feel well between the training sessions. i don’t know if my experience is relevant to you, then you may just disregard my post, but i can tell that you are training very hard and i think it can’t hurt to be aware of my results…
