i think its amazing how women just become attracted to something iconic even if it isnt all that desirable. i have respect for the guy but from the neck up the dude is one of the most ridiculous things ive ever seen.

That honestly amazes you? Why do you think women are much easier to market to than men, and that the most coveted demographic to marketers has traditionally been the young males?
Women are 100x easier to target with ads. To take that abstractly, they buy into hype a tad more. Just a tad.

i think you misunderstand what it is that amazes me. i know what you’re saying and its painfully true, but its just something to stell marvel at that it is the way it is. im not amazed in the sense of “wow ive never though of it or noticed that” just moreso cant fathom how a person can choose to judge something based on things like this. too bad

No one wakes up and says, “I think I’ll follow the herd, today.”

Yeah…they’ve usually been asleep their whole lives.

You can sleep in the bed with She Say (duh). Rush and I will be in the tree fort !
Sorry, tree fort is under construction. I may have to make a few adjustments to my existing treehouse design drawings (oh yes the geekiness knows no bounds) but when I’m done we’ll be able to swing from a platform on the tree fort into the pool. If we’re skinnydipping though, naked rope swinging could chafe… wonder what kind of rope is best for that…

just because men’s health says swimmers have the ideal physique doesn’t mean I want to look like one.
I would absolutely hate looking like that
as a side note my girlfriend does not drool over his physique and said she thinks he has an awkward body shape.
Blasphemy!! Clearly ALL women or at least 90% of them simply LOVE speech impediments and big necks on much smaller bodies. I know this because they say they like it…and women know exactly what they want!!!
Think about it from this perspective: One of the primary motivators for us to build our bodies is to suggest a higher level of physical dominance – it triggers that ‘he’s big and tough and can protect me’ hormone in women which can so effectively lead to, umm, good times. As a group of bodybuilders (or bodybuilding enthusiasts) we’re certainly cued into this – we’re predisposed to assume that building bigger, stronger physiques will be attractive to women because it suggests a degree of physical dominance/power.
Well, guess what – right now, Michael Phelps isn’t SUGGESTING anything. Instead, he IS physically dominant. He’s not just LOOKING strong and SUGGESTING power. Instead, he’s smashing records on the world’s grandest stage. He is wearing the crown for Most Dominant Male Athlete IN THE WORLD.
Women aren’t attacted to his face or his malocclusion (my new word for the day, thanks) – they’re attracted to the fact that he’s kicking much ass on a worldwide scale. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s got more muscle and less fat than 99% of other guys his height.
As my GF told me, ‘he’s ass-ugly, but I wouldn’t kick him out of bed for eatin’ crackers’. Women are attracted to achievement and status moreso than physical beauty.
But we all know that, so, I’m not sure why this is a topic…

…because quite a few newbies seem lost on that fact. They think their appearance, based on what’s hawt right this moment, will lead to much more ass. No one mentions that some of the ugliest guys can land some of finest women due to what they have accomplished in life or their personality.
In the end, if you aren’t bodybuilding for yourself, there is no way you can stick with this long term.
Women will be falling for you if your bank account isn’t empty and you aren’t working at the lowest level in society. If you can increase both of those, the attention of the opposite sex is directly related.
Is not achievement (and perhaps status)indicative to some extent of sheer drive, willpower, internal strength, tenacity, etc.?
If you lift for the right reasons (as the man ProfX said)- for yourself- does not this same drive to improve and excel also transfer into other areas of your life?
Many lifters who seem to do it seriously for themselves that I have met also do not seem hugely lacking in other departments in their life- they seem fairly well-balanced. And most people I’ve met who are really successful in their careers and non-physical pursuits seem to make at minimum a decent effort to maintain physical health (despite the many opinions of what “healthy” actually is).
No self-respecting man or woman wants a partner who comes into the relationship as an economically bereft mooch.
This is all a good thing, I think, and no reason to be cynical.

How many of you guys would like to look like Michael? He has won 7 golds with that body so it seems like the ideal bodytype. You KNOW the ladies are drooling when they look at him sans shirt. Is his physique more desireable than the ‘bodybuilder’ physique?
I don’t want to look like him, but I have no drive to not look like him, if that makes any sense. I suppose if I discovered a Phelps like talent for swimming, I’d probably see if I too could make it to the Olympics.
Therefore, adopting a training routine and schedule similar to his, and thus the “swimmer’s build” too, I suppose. Looks are pretty low on the totem pole for me.
