Looking Forward to Superfood

I read the Christmas list article which told me about the upcoming release of Biotest's Superfood which will provide 7-8 servings of fruits and veggies in one tablespoon... I'm eagerly awaiting any more news regarding the product. It was said in the article that in 1-2 months we can expect it, but im gettin yancy. Will somebody feed me some news on how things are going?

I also have to put in my two cents… “if its too good to be true, it usually is”. Somebody please tell me my intuition is wrong, and this product will truly be worth the hype!

Also, this is my first post as a T-Nation member. While ive been reading the articles for years i had never joined… its about time. My hat is off to the entire staff, keep doin what you do.

I am sure it will be an excellent product. I think it will deliver the antioxidants of 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables. That does not mean you will get all the phytonutrients and fiber of 7-8 servings of fruit and vegetables. You still want to try to get your 5-9 servings in the form of whole foods in a variety of colors. It will be a great product as a health supplement, perhaps marketed as a little insurance if you do not eat all your servings on a given day, but it will not be a replacement for the real thing. If you do not like you fruits and vegetables this will not be an excuse to exclude them from your diet.

I’m sure it’ll come out soon enough, there’s a similar product out already called Greens+. Hopefully the Biotest one will be more affordable as Greens+ is rather expensive. Already spend a decent amount on workout shakes and protein as it is!

My guess is probably March - April

The article in december said a few months, so that would put it around that time. Should be a great product as Biotest usually blows the doors off the competition whenever they make a product that is already on the market.

Biotest Superfood will thankfully be nothing like Greens+.

Ive read that extreme amounts of anti-oxidants can cause free radicals, will this be an issue with this product?

I’m not very experienced with nutrition, it is my achillies heel as far as bodybuilding goes, but isnt there much more to a vegetable than anti-oxidants? Enzymes that help on a cellular level for instance?

Im a broke ass college student making enough scratch to say in my apartment and kept fed. I buy the steamer vegetable packages and try to eat one a day. This superfood suppliment will give me more than just anti-oxidants, correct?

I’m holding off ordering anything until it comes out…shipping’s expensive around these parts you know.

I may be in for a long wait.

Mod Brian,

Any ideas on the timeline?

I cannot wait as well!

Your body can survive on calories alone from processed food, but a lot of that other stuff such as phytonutrients in fruits and vegetables helps in ways we are finding about every day. Studies are starting to confirm that those that eat a lot of fruits and vegetables may extend their life and have a lower incidence of cancer.

As far as the antioxidants being bad, that is up for debate. Perhaps certain antioxidants form certain vitamins in too high of doses can do more harm than good, such as vitamin E. Your body does need a certain amount of free radicals and too much of anything is often bad. Like most things we will probably know a lot more in a several years, but that does not help us now. Most superfoods are derived mainly from wholefood sources and I would worry less about antioxidants from these than in pill form.

I would worry less about the potential harm from too many antioxidants, and more about an increased risk of cancer from not eating enough fruits and vegetables.

I am assuming part of your enthusiasm for this product is based on the fact that you do not eat a lot of vegetables and see this as a quick fix. If I am wrong than I apologize. If your lack of eating healthy is mainly because you??re broke than just make the healthiest choices that you can know and do better later when the situation changes.

Many are in a similar situation and post on how to eat healthy on a budget. I will not lie and say I ate healthy at your age, because I did not. The pizza was ridiculously cheap in college and I did not worry about the health benefits of fruits and vegetables in the least at that age.

Mega dosing anti-oxidants has been shown to have a negative effect. If you eat enough fruits and vegetables you don’t need to take any additional.

As I understand this Superfood it is dehydrated fruits and vegetables with the cellulose removed so it should have most of the benefits.

I just have to add as a FORMER Greens Plus buyer, I to cannot wait for Biotest to release this. Also, the great great majority of people don’t get enough nutrients from vegetables and fruits not too much.

D

as far as the worries about too much antioxidants, I really doubt it’s going to be an issue with this product. I don’t think Biotest is going to release a product that would prove to be dangerous to the consumer. However, like what’s been said, I think it would greatly behoove the user to still eat his daily servings of fruits and vegetables as if he wasn’t taking the Superfood supplement.

there it is :open_mouth:
