Great work in here, lots a lot of reps with a lot of weight.
Mademoiselle Main…thanks. Or is it supposed to be Madame because you have a hubby. Madame doesn’t fit somehow…unless you are wearing something leathery and tall boots…hmmm, boots.
Jack, so the 1 rep max calculator says 390 x 8 = 484 1RM (ha! In my dreams). It also says that 405 x 7 = 486. I don’t know the experience of others, and I know these calculators are inaccurate, but that math seems suspect since I did 405 x 4 last week. I’m supposed to 410 in 2 weeks. Maybe I’ll do 405 instead and try for 7. Dunno.
Nice deadlifting pr. 10lbs is huge, and doing 390x8 on top of that, wow.

Hey Scott thanks. I guess this would be more of a rep PR at that weight rather than a new PR. But I was pretty happy to get the same reps (8) with 10 lbs more.
I have no solid feel for what my actual max would be at this point having been strictly following 5/3/1 for 6 months. I should probably test it.

You have or haven’t seen an increase, Joe?

Sorry I haven’t seen an increase but that could be part injury recovery too.

Well, to be honest, it’s all about the legs inside the boots. In your case, definitely “Ma…Damn” ![]()
Nice boots BTW
It seems like a belted and wrapped giterdone is going to be a deadlifting machine.

Just belt and TK knee sleeves (no numbers benefit). I don’t recall ever seeing someone wrap their knees for deads. Likely not enough knee flex to build up any elastic energy in the fabric.
I’m thinking about getting TK sleeves for my elbows just as a preventative measure. No problems now but I’ve had tendinitis in the past.

good play on words sir ![]()
and those boots took me forever to find. Love em. Italian-made and leather. the only reason I can stand winter is for my boots.
1 RM calculators suck. They either make me feel really good or really bad but are rarely accurate in my case.
Elbow sleeves, eh?

Yeah, the calculators are either good for my ego or make me go WTF.
The Tommy Konos are neoprene or similar. I did try an elbow sleeve when I had elbow tendinitis and it gave some support but certainly not the warmth. The TKs made my knees feel all warm and cozy (and sweaty) so I figure they might be good for my elbows too.
1 RM calculators overinflate my bench and underestimate my DL and squat.
Anyone else?
I love my knee sleeves. Never tried elbow sleeves, but my fed doesn’t allow them raw or geared, so I wouldn’t want to get in the habit of relying on them.
Cycle 6, Week 1
Bench (3s)
160 x 3
180 x 3
205 x 5…same as last 3s day. Perhaps a little fatigued from OHP 2 days ago and DLs yesterday. Or, I suck at benching.
Incline Hammer Smith
2pps x 3
2 + 25 x 3
2 + 35 x 3
3pps x 1
2 + 25 x 8
Dips (BW)…my shoulder doesn’t like these much. Don’t know if I’ll ever do them weighted again.
5 x 10
Nice benching, my shoulder get a tiny bit cranky on weighed dips above +90.

well, I’m glad someone else also picked up on that ![]()
You don’t suck at benching. Strength gain just isn’t a linear progression. At least its not for me.
OK, wraps and sleeves are different. Gotcha.
As for dips, my hubby never does them because even bodyweight ones tweak his shoulder. With so many other options for triceps/chest, its silly to do something that hurts.

They’re high enough…Madame!
