That was awesome man! Congrats! What kind of belt are you wearing there?

It’s a 10mm lever belt I got from liftinglarge. It’s a little on the dinky side for a power belt so I like to wear it when I train. At comps I wear a 13mm Titan Toro belt which provides a lot more support.
So I hear you are some fancy nerve conduction study technology man.

Haha, I don’t know about fancy but I am still nerve conduction study technologist.
Well, I find it interesting so I went with fancy.

Do you work in the industry?
In other news. Here’s my 605x1 Squat PR!!! My goal for 2014 was a 600lb squat. I guess I should have aimed a little higher since I still have 6 months of training before 2015.
No, I feel semi related though, I am a PTA. And jeebus squats.

Just working up to my openers on all three lifts. Openers total 1505. My goals for this meet are 635 squat, 400 bench, 700 deadlift which would be a 1735 total. Openers flew up like it was nothing and I was tired, beat up and hadn’t eaten in a long time so I’m assuming that I’ll do really well at the meet.
Meet Write Up
I don’t have a lot of time so this will be the short version.
When I was warming up for squats I accidentally squatted 605 instead of 495 because some of the plates on the bar were 100’s and I thought they were 45’s. At first I thought that I was going to be really weak because it felt so heavy but then when I saw how much it was I was kicking myself for wasting the energy in the warm up room. My squat attempts were 545, 615 and 645. 545 flew up like there wasn’t even a bar on my back, 615 was heavy but a quick rep and 645 was REALLY hard but I did it. My bench press attempts were 345, 375 and 407. 345 was quick and easy, 375 was heavy but went up decently and 407 was a bit of a grinder. My deadlift attempts were 615, 685 and 705. 615 exploded off the floor and I knew I would have a strong pull that day. 685 went up quickly but I got red lighted because I apparently wiggled my toes too much? I kinda felt robbed. It was really a stickler call but I didn’t say anything about it. My third attempt was 705 which was heavy but I lifted it smoothly. At the top I felt a searing pain in my hand and dropped the bar about 2 centimeters away from finishing the lift. The bar had ripped my callouses off and I was bleeding everywhere
I totalled 1667 because of my bad deadlifts. If I would have filed my callouses down I could have totalled 1757! Kinda chaps my ass but I did set all time squat and bench PR’s so I guess I don’t have too much to complain about. The videos are on my wife’s phone so I’ll have to figure out how to get them on here tonight.

Oh man you got robbed on those deads.
I had to laugh at the squat warmup though lol. Nothing like taking 50lbs over your opener in the warmup room to give you some confidence in your first attempt!

I was expecting to have to lift light for the first week after my meet but I never expected it would be like this! Holy shit, I’m fucking embarrassed by this crap! I know I’ll recover and be strong again but I haven’t struggled under 185 lbs since I was in high school lol.
Do you bench false grip? Couldnt tell completely but it looked like it. And that 685 looked way to easy to be red lighted.

Yea, I bench with a false grip. I know everyone says not to but I’m able to rotate my hands to the outside slightly which helps me tuck my elbows comfortably and stops my shoulders from aching. When I wrap my thumb around the bar I feel like there’s too much twisting in my wrists and my elbows tend to flare out more.
I false grip anything with a barbell, feels so much mpre natural.

I only false grip bench press, overhead press and anything with an axle. Everything I grip normally. There was a guy at the meet who used a false grip for his deadlifts! He must have had some killer grip strength to pull that off.

Ive tried a false grip on deadlifts, weird but not much harder honestly. I false grip overheads, bench, chins, rows, squats… pretty much everything. Even db rows, not db pressing though.
