Sorry if this has been covered. I think everyone here knows that you don’t really gain the multitude of benefits from fish oil, until you’ve taken it for a while, consistently.
Could someone that hasn’t been taking it, essentially load up, and take maybe 9-10g of EPA DHA every day, and reap the benefits sooner then just taking 6g a day?
RD, I’m sure a lot of the benefits are realized over time as the EPA and DHA are incorporated into the cell membranes. However, you’ll notice the cognitive benefits IMMEDIATELY.
I’m not absolutely sure about the loading aspect, but my belief is that it would NOT help.
Something else I forgot to ask. TT what do you think is the optimum amount of EPA/DHA to get in for a 245 lb male?
I was thinking, as with most things there has to be a law of diminishing returns when it comes to fish oil. But it seems it would only make sense that a larger person needs more of it. Or I could be way off base here.
RD, good logic, and I’m with you on that one. John Berardi recommends 6-10g of EPA/DHA. Considering your body weight, I’d definitely take the 10g.
Additionally, if you take in flaxseed oil, you’ll get some Omega 3 → EPA/DHA conversion, about 25 to 33%.
