There is no lacing them together. They were from the same conversation and are about as directly contradictory as possible. You are arguing against the stereotype that northerners are mean. Then you state that stereotypes are there for a reason, and you should embrace those flaws. What exactly was out of context?

And good Italian can be found anywhere. We don’t have the mom and pop spots like ya’ll but I’ve had Italian here that would make a yankee say something friendly. I also disagree with your chinese sentiment, though my city does have two china towns replete with street signs in chinese instead of English so Houston may be atypical.

You’re street food owns but that is it.

I’ve had Puerto Rican food in Puerto Rico. It’s allright but basically bland mexican. I would eat mexican and especially tex-mex over the legit stuff I’ve had all day.

Oh, and cajun food. Enough said.

I think another way to put it is something like college football rivalries. I went to Georgia Tech, and I can’t stand U(sic)GA. Sure, there are differences, but most of the animosity is manufactured. GT and U(sic)GA students aren’t as different as fight songs would have you believe. The memory of the winner in contests is always way better than the loser, and generally lasts longer than is really appropriate. But, life is more fun with rivals, which is why it’s human nature to find or create them.
