Map of Obesity In the U.S.

Percentages by state, with trends.

Well, I didn’t need a map to tell me that.

I saw that, once.

Specifically it got me wondering about Mississippi and Maine. They seem to be in the lead in most cases.

Any theories?

Mississippi should be obvious enough. As for Maine, I’m going to have to go with ‘proximity to Quebec’.

Mississippi = fried everything. Maine I guess is just insulation for the cold

Yup, Maine just can’t resist our delicious poutine.

Somehow, in 2004 Hawaii went back to being white (on the map), i.e. in the slimmest category. I wonder how/why that happened?

It’s so funny because this is SUCH a hugely discussed topic among me and my friends. I live in New York City and we always joke about how when you leave the City . . . YOU SEE FAT PEOPLE!!! REEEEEALLY fat people, EVERYWHERE!

Scary.

I have a question about California. I know the southern coastal cities are more into fitness and are seemingly more health conscious, but does that line of thinking degenerate as you go east from the coast?

Any native Calis care to give an opinion?

Haha! Calfornia!

Wait, Texas is worse. D’oh!

Nah, Cali and their progressive dieting is just as bad as the rest of us. haha

White is “No Data”

haha, Michiganders are fatter than us Wisconsinites! And they have a horrible football team.

Go Pack!

Oh, sorry. Been caught skimming.

YES!! I lived in SoCal for 8 years and, the more inland you go, the more fat and trashy the population gets. I can only speak for SoCal, but other than the coastal cities, California is just white trash.

As delicious as a mixed diet of Tex-Mex, Cajun, Midwest bready foods, Southern style deserts and deep fried sides can be, I wish more of my fellow Texans would excercise to keep up with their diets.

My home city of Houston has been labeled the nations fattest city a few times, and there are certainly some fat asses lumbering around. I’m not sure how they stand the heat and humidity.

That’s funny. I don’t know if you’ve ever listened to Henry Rollins’ spoken word stuff but there was one bit he did where he was telling a story about how his friends dragged him to a KISS concert in San Bernardino. He was describing how he was scared to death because San Bernardino is an absolute hell-hole of violent white trash, Aryan Nation types with tattoos on their necks, violent felons just out of the clink, etc.

He said that when most people think of California they think of Van Halen, the Beach Boys, straight white teeth and fake tits, but that when you go inland to places like San Bernardino, Bakersfield, etc., most of the state is a pretty scary place.

Aren’t there, thankfully, also a lot of hot chicks (and fake tits) in Houston? A friend of mine (who is originally from Michigan) lives there and he says it’s a pretty good scene, female-wise.

Haha. Come on, it can’t be all white trash. But I can see being sedentary common in places like Barstow and Needles. I mean what else is there to do but eat and stay in the a/c?

Just a mirror.

(couldn’t resist  )

Let’s hear it for the South, yeeeehaw.

Fattern’ hell.
