Yeah man Phoenix just feels weird. Anyone else you talk to while you’re there treates you like you’re stupid, here’s my theory as to why:
Phoenix sucks. A lot. People who live there hate it, and hate themselves for enduring it. So naturally, if you’re there, they think “Look at this motherfucker here in this stupid fucking hot dumb dirty city just like me. He MUST be an idiot, I chose to not be nice to him.”

Eh. I live about 15 minutes from NY. Everyone is soft compared to the people who live here in my eyes, but I don’t mean “not tough,” I mean more like “not cutthroat.”
People here do not fucking care about you if they don’t know you. Not at all.
Individual toughness is not based on the region one comes from.[/quote]
I went through Boot with a lot of guys from New York and they confused being tough with being a dick. They were not tough but they had dick down pat.
agreed on individual toughness.

Phoenix is a lot like Florida in that most of the people you meet are not natives. That’s why their drivers are so bad, they bring all their bad habits from all over the country, then mix them all together.
My brother lives south of Phoenix, and he loves it. I have not run into people being rude, or assholes in the times I have been there though.

I’m eating cheese grits right now!
I’ve been sitting here and reading through this thread the last few days and I have to remark that I’ve noticed a few patterns to many of the posts:
Personally, from my experiences, the “south” doesn’t exist, if it ever really did, at least in the stereotypical sense. The idea that people are “generally nicer” in one area over another is your individual experience. In other words, if you wanna believe people are kinder in Georgia vs. Pennsylvania, go right ahead, but understand there is nothing to support that other than you want it to be true.
Racism is everywhere. Does the south get a bad rap in 2011? Yep - it sure does. Is that fair? No, if you grew up here - but there’s an old phrase “Can’t see the forest for the trees.” Open your mind to the idea that just maybe all these sterotypes exist for a reason. If being more accepted means it’s non-existent, so be it.
Doesn’t everyone want to be part of the “nice” people? I’ve noticed a few brave souls raise their hands and say proudly, “I’m from the North - you know - one of the asshole states - and I’m proud of it.” But not too many. Everybody wants to be special and from the cool place. The people I knew in “the angry north” were anything but that.
I miss where I grew up - b/c it’s where I grew up. It wasn’t special in any amazing way other than the fact that I lived there for 30 years. I knew every street and every resturant. My neighbors were kind people that waved hello and baked me cookies, just like yours. All the weird shit there was special b/c it was part of me. You miss RC cola and moon pies? Really? Well I miss Italian bread and visting the wineries on the Finger Lakes. Which one is better? Stop taking every possible opportunity to remind someone “you’re not one of us” and maybe they will stop trying to change things on you. <end rant - let the flames ensue>

Yep, a home sick yankee.
I like the forest for the trees quote and would apply it right back to your rude yankee statements. It’s not like north easterners run around looking for people to offend, it’s just their general pretense of “whaddaya lookin at?”.
RC Cola is for chumps but Dr. Pepper (Texas) and Coca-Cola (Georgia) are world wide favorites because they are delicious. Wine is good too and the south has wineries along with delicious colas. Anybody other than France claiming superior wine culture is nutty though. Moonpies were allright as a kid but you just can’t beat southern baking, my personal favs are Scrumptious Cake and Pecan Pie. Plus we do have lakes too, and oceans and swamps which are actually quite beautiful if you get back in one.
If you’se guys quit trying to make Texas or the Carolinas NY we probably wouldn’t have an attitude of “You don’t belong here”. But have some scrumptios cake anyways, we’ll win you over if you ever learn to truly relax, you uptight yankee ![]()
Plus you act like food being our most beloved quality is a bad thing by implying RC Cola and Moonpies are our culinary epitome.
You yourself mentioned the heaven that is grits and shrimp, or grits and anything.
Our legitimate culinary tastes can not be beat and you know it.

The best you got is name calling? Really? I confess myself disappointed.
You can try and twist my words into what ever your world view might be, but it still rings false. If you’d like to “one-off” every comment in a vain attempt at dismissal… well, I just expected more of you. I think you’re better than that. “You’se guys” really? Allow me to retort… nah, nah a boo boo…stick your head in doo doo. smh… C’mon let hold your purse this time - give it another swing.

Didn’t mean to actually step in to a hornets nest. Oh how sweet it would be if the internet could convey tone.

Im a proud Yankee, though I just dont think we are the big rude assholes that some make us out to be.
I loved RC cola, but sometimes my dad bought C&C Cola which was fucking awful.
