Live in Texas?

Whataburger commercials have gone to crap since they got rid of the old cowboy guy narrating them. I will still choose their food over pretty much any other burger chain except Culvers, though

Can I add the stupid Shiner commercials with that hipster-looking dude sitting at the bar yapping to this?

We are selling out all over the state. I’d like to see a border wall north, east & west.

What’s HEB?

Yeah, ridiculous

The best grocery store chain.

I live in the northeast and I was impressed by the grocery store chains down south. They even asked if I wanted help bringing the groceries to my car, and I’m not elderly or handicapped. Where I live they stopped doing that a long time ago.

We have the big three next to each other by TMS - Chick Fil A, Whatadiaster and In N Out. One is always empty and the other two have lines out the door and drive through.

I haven’t made it to HEB yet… but, I love Central Market, which I hear is same owner.

HEB is a great grocery store. The one I go to is in Fredericksburg. Tourist HQ.
It’s like they are “doing too much”. There is sooooo much stuff jammed in there already.

They tore the old one down in Marble Falls and built a HUGE store. Marble Falls has enough room for all that, this one doesn’t. It crammed full.

They have quite a few Central Market products in HEB.

Awe that makes sense! I went to Fredericksburg my first year here because everyone told me it was incredible. No offense if you love it, but it’s a few block strip of boutique stores. (Edit) the vibe is out of staters coming in pretending to be cowboys. Only nice thing is they hand out beers to husbands who are following along.

I tried to buy property just north, but sadly I took a much better job that requires me to be in office.

Native Texan, born and raised. Moved away for 6 years of military, came back and worked in oil industry for 10 years, then we all moved to Hawaii last year where I live now. (HEB will miss us I’m sure. 4 kids, massive grocery bill.)

I don’t miss the weather.

I miss HEB, plenty of land, and a large home for an affordable price.

(I lived northwest of Houston, and worked in north Houston)

Fredericksburg was awesome when I was a kid, not so much now. I know all the back roads to get around town… lol I don’t even go down main street. Such bullshit.

IMO… They ruined a perfectly nice town.

Yeah, if you want a decent paying job… you have to look elsewhere, if you don’t have an asshole buddy.

I live in the Austin area, moved here about 5 years ago from NJ. So. Much. Better!

How can you afford to live in Hawaii?

I can’t.

I have enough income and money at the moment to live here for a while, and if I’m not successful in sustaining this, I have enough savings and a good enough skillset and resume to start over back on the mainland without ever making my kids go hungry.

Living here - assuming $$ isn’t a problem - is amazing. I live on Oahu, so all the conveniences of a normal city are within a short drive from anywhere (Target, costco, restaurants, downtown areas with all the usual if you’re into that sort of thing); world-class beaches within minutes of anywhere, and of course if you live here you can find good beaches that aren’t crowded; no shortage of outdoor activities, if you’re into hiking, biking, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, swimming, watching whales and dolphins, whatever you want.
It’s crawling with homeless people and crime is probably a major concern in some areas but not in my neighborhood, and I haven’t been affected by it.
It’s beautiful. I’ve posted the view out my bedroom window before, can’t find it right now, but it’s amazing and refreshing.

Oh, and the weather is amazing.

How can you afford to retire at 62?

(LOL this is tongue in cheek with regard to your question above. But it’s worth asking and I’m curious your answer!)

Not who you’re referring to, but I’m planning on retiring in 16 years, at 50. I ran a business that will pay me out about $1M. Now I work for a financial firm that puts a very significant % of salary into 401k, in addition to stock grants. I’m going to retire in another country tho.
