Listening to My Professor Right Now

and apparently creatine is bad for you and will cause diarrhea. It is also like steroids and you will lose any and all gains as soon as you stop taking it. He also adds that NO Xplode is a good supplement that should be taken by everyone.

I LOL’d and thought I would share that with you. Keep in mind that this is at a major university and I’m paying over $100 per credit hour to listen to this shit.

Maybe he’s from the bizarro world where everything is opposite.

LOL, it’s like that Seinfeld with “Bizarro Jerry”

Ya everyone has different views when it comes to nutrition and workouts.

where do you go to school? I get the same thing in all of my nutrition classes. Fat is bad, cholesterol is the devil, creatine is a waste of money, protein supps are a waste of money, low-carbohydrates will result in every illness under the sun, and of course we learn about the wonders of SOY!!! it’s like they don’t research any of the things they are professing.

One guest speaker in my nutrition class explained at length that your body needs ATLEAST 50g of carbohydrates per day do function as a human being…hmmmm…i guess my 6 months on the Anabolic Diet means that i was operating as some kind of carb hungry zombie or something.

Creatine can give you the hershey squirts. You can have size losses because of the water retention. And, if creatine helps your strength when you lift, of course you will lose the effect when you stop using it.

Now the idea you will lose any size and strength gains beyond what creatine provides, that is silly. Those ‘facts’ where probably on a 8 week study where the people lifting were not lifting/eating enough to have any real effects, thus the impact of adding and subtracting creatine was the only variable. So gain five pounds water weight, lose five pounds water weight. Thus creatine, no good.

I have no idea on the NO Explode…maybe the idea caffeine helps if you are not used to caffine, that is.

I did have a case of mild diarrhea when I first started creatine or took too much. You will lose some water weight when you stop creatine as well, but I doubt it will be “all your gains”.

And NOxplode? LOL

Haha, what class and what school?

Creatine will not definitely give you diarrhea, but plain old creatine monohydrate can create some “stomach issues.”

You should go print off some scientific studies and go back to class and absolutely destroy him.

Yeah, a student proving a lecturer wrong, I’m sure that it happens all the time and a professor would allow it.

Its funny, my lifting coach told me the other day “Your doing good now you dont need any shakes or supplements or any of that stuff, you just need a good diet” I said Ok and soon after took a creatine squeeze-sample from this kid I know. Old timers just aint with whats cool!!!

Sorry to say it but a lot of them are ignorant when it comes to nutrition and strenght training.

I have a very smart professor with body function and mechanics of the human body but still rolls with the Cooper Institution ideas which are true but not always the most affective ways of training. He’s up-to-date on some of the new things which is impressive but mostly stuck with his original education.

I’m a certified Cooper Institute trainer but I disagree with some of the ways for optimal fat-loss that they preach.

And steroids are the devil and if you use them you’ll die by a heart attack by the time your 25 kids.

As much as it sucks the best way to deal with this is to keep quiet and ace the class. It wouldn’t be really fun if you were on the bubble for a grade and the teacher says “Oh hey this is Scott that A-hole that always tried to make me look like an idiot, screw him” and drops your grade instead of maybe giving you a friendly bump up because you were a good student and didn’t give them a bunch of lip during the semester.

After the semester I’d feel free to chat up the professor with some different ideas but sounding like a know it all when your grades are on the line can’t be very helpful.

You don’t show up your professor unless you’re absolutely sure you can crush his class with cold hard facts.

Even then, it’s not a good idea.

Suck it up, a lot of nutrition classes are behind the curve.

Hmm, a lot of people seem to be suggesting that taking real data from scientific studies to this professor would be a bad idea. My experience in academic settings has been the opposite. Some people are more open than others when it comes to interpreting data, but that’s somewhat of a different issue here. If there are studies that have different findings (which is different than interpreting those findings) than what he’s suggesting, a polite discussion about the matter may be helpful for both of you.

If this professor isn’t willing to look at data that conflicts with his/her views, then he/she shouldn’t be in an academic field.

It doesn’t matter whether or not the professor should be in the academic field. The simple fact of the matter is that he/she is, and, especially if the professor is tenured, that’s not going to change.

I agree that the better thing to do is just get out of the class with as little conflict and as high a grade as possible. Most professors don’t like to be challenged.

=] you are wise beyond your years.

As a college instructor I will give you this perspective. What the professor teaches is what you need to know for the exam–so know it. Now, if you think the professor would be open to new data, print off the studies and give to him/her after grades have been submitted and finalized. Be polite, say something along the lines of “I came across these, thought you might like to see them.” Then move on. Since this is the spring semester, give them to him/her next fall a few weeks before the corresponding lecture.

Getting a high grade and avoiding conflict at the expense of experiencing what learning should truly be about is pretty stupid, if you ask me.

Good heavens!! How silly of us.

You show me a college professor who will stand publicly corrected by one of his students in his alleged area of expertise and I’ll show you a leprechaun riding a unicorn down the yellow brick road.
