A good short term goal: get the shoulder better =D

I believe we’re both Virgos right? It explains why I read your posts while thinking “Hmm-mm, yep”.
It’s easy to get in a funk because of a limiting injury. Just use this time to find out how really strong you are; mentally, not physically.

Brute / arachne - I really just don’t do any motion that places my arm/shoulder behind me. Anything with my arm tight to my sides I can do. I can still do light pressing moves just have to not do full range to chest because it puts my elbows “behind” my body. I haven’t tried to DL so I don’t know if that would hurt it or not. Can still squat some because I use a really high bar placement…Really should get a safety squat bar.

Snap - I’m waiting to see what the Dr ordered MRI-wise…military dr, so we’ll see…hopefully I’ll know by tomorrow.

DF - Moving back to East TN in 1 1/2 weeks- YAY! I know the meets I wanted to do, but it’s if I can do them…waiting to see what’s up with shoulder is torture…so glad your shoulder is doing well !!

Nikki - yep, we’re both Virgos. Ok, I do need to toughen up the mental portion and quit feeling sorry for myself. Thanks for the kick in the seat ! Even this old lady needs the wisdom of the young ones.

I’ll be following. I found that I could squat and DL just fine with a torn-up shoulder. But I couldn’t bench. I didn’t even try, although I worked my bis and tris.

Doing some lighter DB pressing and tri’s, not sure that there’s not some bicep tendon tenderness on the right side too, so laying off direct bi work. Doing PT 3 times a week, whoo hoo worked up to a 3# DB today!

I should mention that I was warned against DLing with a messed up shoulder because depending on the nature of the injury, you could put yourself at risk for dislocation if the weight is too heavy.

glad to know someone helped you get that mojo back :slight_smile:
also it gives hope to the little folks like us to know that even a legend has “off” times.

Contrast MRI this afternoon ! It’s still hurting, PT still believes it’s probably a labrum tear, and for some reason I’m trusting her instinct more than my GP.

Did some DE Upper yesterday:
Unilateral DB Flat DB presses: 20 reps@ 17.5’s, 22.5’s, 30’s
DB Rows: 12 reps @ 40, 45, 50
Seat Cable Rows (only pulling to sides, not beyone) 3 sets of 12 @ 90
Decline situps: 20 reps with 32.5# db, 35#
25 mins intervals on treadie

Then iced shoulder, and daughter’s softball game that lasted until almost 10 pm! Glad school is over already.

Injuries are no fun. Glad you’re getting some of your mojo back. I hope you hear some good news with the MRI and the recovery is speedy.

Yeah, my ART guy diagnosed a tear even though the first orthopedist I saw said that there was no way I tore anything if I was able to bench still.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Do you have the follow-up appointment yet?

Power, I’m happy that you got your training mojo back. It’s easy to lose at first. I just hope that you’re not pushing too hard on those exercises. Cable rows kill my shoulders sometimes. Be careful, k?

MRI over, shot in my shoulder wasn’t much fun :-((

Should have results in a day or two, no follow up yet. Have to get a referral to Ortho doc from my military GP first. Moving back to Knoxville next week too, so whole new set of dr’s.

Nikki-seated rows are done close grip and elbows only to my sides, big emphasis on pulling with back, so I’m good, but thanks for watching out.

MRI results = complex tear of bicipital labral complex w/possible tear @ bicep tendon
Ortho said w/o his looking at pics he can’t tell how bad the tear is, but most labral tears involve surgery. I went to pick up the results and MRI disk and will be taking back to TN with next week to see another ortho up there and then we’ll see for sure what the treatment will be.

So, last night I squatted w/SSB up to 335 w/straps down and then pulled a sumo PR 385#…guess I jusst wanted to end on a postive lifting night (not that I’m done, just not pushing the limits anymore for awhile)
