Lil Power's Training Log

Yes. I get a lot of technical feedback in the Over 35 forum, which is male dominated.

I think Lil Power is more advanced than many of the other lifters here and follows a hard-core proven powerlifting program (Westside) that not everyone is familiar with. And she knows the nomenclature and has access to and knows how to employ sophisticated training toys (chains, bands, boards, monolift, gear).

And, of course, her talents are otherworldly.

Interestingly, this site is so dominated by people following 5/3/1 yet very few big powerlifters that I know follow or are even familiar with this program. Yet, I don’t think you could find a top shelf powerlifter who didn’t know Westside or hadn’t dabbled with it at some point.

Interesting conversations…Well I joined up here because I saw several female powerlifters and that’s something you do not find very often. I don’t expected or want people saying wow you’re strong, but was hoping for some training/competition discussions. I get excited when I can share and help someone else in whatever quest they have.

Maybe I’ll move on, but I’m not quite ready to do that yet, maybe I’ll start up in the over 35 forum, as I’m going be 49 this summer…ahhh when that creep up on me???

No one wants you to move on.

Why couldn’t you touch the box with straps down? Do you have enough experience with the gear to state how much gain percent-wise with straps up over straps down?

Now that you’ve been training with the gear for a bit, how do you like it?

yeah i think we all read and drool in this log… we just can’t offer advice and there’s not much nontraining info to comment on so it’s done with a handful of popcorn and awe. =+)

and personally, since i don’t compete and don’t use any gear… i more just absorb info here… but don’t really have questions that need answering.

i mostly just wait around for the awesome videos. lol

Bloated and suit was way tight, couldn’t hit the box with 215# and light bands.
I haven’t been in the suit with straps up but once so far. I think I’m suppose to in suit w/straps up this Thurs so maybe that will give me an idea.

I’m actually loving the gear, it is uncomfortable and leaves the coolest bruises and cut marks, can’t want until my massage guy see them…that should be an interesting conversation.

100 + bands for speed work, then 1 top set of comp bench, normal for my DE day. I just didn’t have good form and nutrition hasn’t been great, nor the sleep cycle… oh well, today’s another day.

Bummer about your sleep and eats and feeling a bit off. I know how that is, and hope for you that things improve.

Sorry I offer no training discussion for you

No matter where you go, I will find you. May it be PW or 35+, I will find you, you cannot escape me <3

I love your log!

as for not asking questions and stuff, my reasoning personally is that i’m merely hobbyist compared to lil power and other people who are trained/training in a more serious fashion.

I don’t know enough about the sport to ask in depth questions because i’m not professional about it all- plus women naturally seem to go for giving support and stuff. I think we tend to do that before other things. girlpower-bonding.

i do love to oo and awe though! and you lil power are a superstar pl. STAY!!

Bullshit. You have tremendous raw talent. Get yourself a coach and you’ll be at nationals in no time.

totally agree with Snap!

ok, after talking it out with several people, I’m in deload mode this week. heartrate is consistently higher than normal and when doing cardio/hiit, it is not recovering as fast as normal. Add to that every joint and muscle is hurting.

Front squats

95 x 8
115 x 8
125 x 8

45 degree Leg Press
230 x 10
270 x 10
360 x 10

Leg Extn
3 sets of 85 x 15

Good Girl/Bad Girl
80 x 20 each
85 x 20 each
90 x 20 each

Light Band Ham curls
4 sets of 25

Decline abs
3 sets of 22.5# x 15

30 mins walk on incline treadmill, keeping HR below 140

Sounds like a very wise decision. I rarely de-load, but may consider taking a week off every other month after my next meet. Do you regularly de-load?

Ksnap: I usually don’t deload until the week before a meet. I think holding so much more weight with the gear on caused my body to rebel a little. I will start listening to it better now.

Sat 1.29/11 / ME Upper - Deload
DB close grip press
3 sets rep out, rest 1 min between sets
45’s x 22
45’s x 9
45’s x 6…wow, that got heavy fast !

Incline Tates
3 sets of 12 @ 20’s/22.5’s/25’s

Chaos Bench
plates hanging from bands
lighter weight, 2 sets of 20; after 5 reps hold at top for 10 secs
75 x 20 x 2 sets

Light band tri pushdowns; 100 reps

rear delt ciruit/light weight
3 sets of 20, laterals & windmills

Kneeling cable abs; 3 sets of 15, 90/105/105

Its so weird to hear that you guys, lil P and snap, who consistently do max work, don’t deload regularly if at all - and yet I deload almost every 5-6 weeks…i mean, was I misinformed about the need/use of deloads? Am i just being a pussy and deloading unecessarily? Hmm…

and honest Lil P, I wish I could offer you more in the way of critique and/or discussion, but you’re super advanced for me - sorry, loks like you’ll just have to be my role model shrugs Lol!

Keep killing it woman!

Can you explain what you get out of a chaos bench?

Mashy- I used to keep my PR’s to a 5# PR even if I could go higher and I think that kept me in check, but now since the gear is new to me, neither my training partners nor I know what I can lift, so I think we push it extra hard. I think you need to listen to your body.

Bobbi, chaos bench will teach what being tight when benching is all about! On this workout I was using it for rehab thus the lower weights. Try 20 reps, after each 5 reps hold at the top for 10 sec while being as tight as you can, I was shaking by end of the 2nd set.
But that 10 sec gave me a chance to re-tighten everything from traps down to my heels.
I hung 10’s off the mini bands and 5’s off the micros on each side.
