who are some of the lightest, approx average height (5’7 to 5’10; ie NOT really short) professional bodybuilders?
Phil Heath? He weighs about 230 or less I think, and looks about 250.

Other than that, I think Brandon Curry turned pro at around 225lbs…even though he is bigger now.
Just to make a point though, 220+lbs in CONTEST SHAPE at under 5’11" is fucking huge and way bigger than most on this site. I am just putting that out there in case someone is thinking their regular 220lbs is anywhere near these guys.

Exactly. I notice a lot of people brag about being 230 or something and make fun of someone who is say 195 yet the guy at 230 is 20% body fat. Not saying there’s no point in bulking up past a comfort zone but you really can’t make fun of the lighter guy when that’s his competition weight for example. Even professor X would probably have to cut down to 240 or so (rough estimate) to be in true contest shape, which at 5’11 would be sick.

Agreed. Someone under even 240lbs at over 20% will likely have to drop below 190lbs to be in contest shape…which is NOT that impressive. That means unless someone is an off season weight over 250-260lbs AND relatively lean (ie. no rolls and no hanging gut), bragging about body weight alone is leaving out all of the important stuff.
I guess I also have to say though that few will be able to get much bigger than that if they aren’t smoother for a while to hit that higher weight set point.
What do you think you would be able to weigh in at come contest time, PX?
What about Kenny Jones? lol…
haha, i just googled “big naturals” in hopes of adding something to this discussion…should’ve seen that one comin

He trains at my gym. He no longer looks like a pro bodybuilder. He’s about 5’5 and can’t be more than 155lbs a bit leaner than I am.
Wait, are we not considering the 202 guys like Correa, Dugdale, and Flex Lewis? They don’t get as heavy Dave Henry and Kevin English.

For the record, Kevin English states he goes up to fucking 270lbs in the off season. He also states how hard it is to come in as light as he does (as he likes to eat and if it weren’t for the 202 class, he would be competing over 220lbs). I can’t even imagine what someone that height would look like at 270lbs and NOT fat.
It sucks they never show these guys in the off season. It would eliminate all of the confusion as well as finally clear the air that you had better be willing to really get your body weight up if you plan on actually standing out in contest shape.

I saw a fairly recent guest posing vid of English at 260ish along with Phil Heath and one other guy I can’t remember at the moment on MD a while back. Enormous? Yes.
Who’s the guy 30 seconds in in the pink suit?
And Yates may be the fullest person I’ve ever seen. Madness
Stan McQuay is pretty light, about 210 lbs off season

Thats Mike Matarazzo
Heres the complete video of his off season posing

Bodybuilders in their off season
Well, I think some of you may have missed my point a little. You can bet that if a bodybuilder is doing a guest posing, that this is probably not the most distance they have been from contest shape.
I don’t mean “let me diet down for 3 weeks so I can guest pose in front of an audience with quite possibly the use of some last minute diuretics” shape.
I mean “heaviest body weight in the gym lifting the heaviest weight they can handle the farthest out from a contest” shape.
Kevin English at 270lbs trying to eat enough to fuel a workout that really tests his limits will probably look a little different than Kevin English at less than 260lbs doing a guest posing all oiled up and trying to look his best at that given time.
Lee Priest has got too be one of the biggest culprits with off season size. He is fairly light with a contest weight of about 190-200 pounds and in his off season sitting at around 270-290
