Back still bothering her, but only when she tilts/moves her head forward. She was able to get a whole workout in, with just slightly lower weight. Also asked for more leg exercises.

Thanks, gents. Wife’s back is doing MUCH better today. I think she will be 100% by next week. We are just going to keep feeling it out for today and Tuesday.
On a side, now that I am getting her legs sore, she is complaining that she doesn’t feel like she is doing enough work…lol. We are going to up her to 4 sets for all exercises other than bench, squats and deads, which already run more than that. She really does look forward to the workouts. Who would’ve thought…
Today was the 1st day, since last Tuesday, that my legs had no soreness. Fortunately, the workout did not obliterate them again. I still noticed it while going up the stairs. But it was nothing like last week. My initial plan was to go up 10# per week on these, but last week was too light. So I made a 20# jump.

Ran out of time. On deads, she is looking good. EXCEPT, she has a hard time keeping her lower back locked. It doesn’t round much at all. She doesn’t have much of an arch anyway. Just something to work on, though.
Bitching though because she doesn’t feel sore or drained.
It appears the wife is enjoying herself, and you as well. Pretty soon you’ll have her making fun of the 1/2 squatters and tandem benchers!!! You should take her on a field trip to a commercial gym, just for kicks!!! Remember to go on national tandem bench day.
P.S. Gently reminder her that you don’t have to be ‘drained’ to be ‘trained’!!! Especially at our…stage…in life

You know, Rug, that isn’t a bad idea. I will give her enough time to feel confident in her own form, though. So she knows what she is looking at.
I have told her exactly that. I like the phrase too…“don’t have to be draned to be trained”. Of course, she is only 34. So she is still to young to get that…lol. Come May, her level of enlightenment will increase.

Great to see you back squatting and deadlifting. How’s your back coping?
Just remember slow and steady wins the race!
Brett, it is doing okay. My hope is that keeping it to once a week will allow for sufficient recovery and not aggravate it too much.
And I started so light to play it just as you said…slow and steady. I hope to be back up to 315# on each by the end of April. That being said, I think that doing a 5x5 on both, on the same day, will get to be too much, at some point. In my mind, I see myself eventually going to 5x5 and 5x3 (reps x sets), once the weight gets to a point where it is starting to really bother the back. Then, maybe, go to 5x3 for both. And ending up at a 3x3 for both. But that is just a loose plan.
I really NEED the lower body work. Honestly, though, I somewhat fear it. I think that back surgery is going to happen at some point, whether I like it or not…or squat/dead or not. I could be wrong, but two docs have told me as much. Maybe I will luck up, as one doc said was possible (though unlikely) and this type of work will somehow prevent the need for surgery.
Joints felt great yesterday and today. Then I started lifting. Same shit, different day. I am starting to think that I would miss the shoulder tweaks, if it went away.

You can see my traps, but they are nothing to write home about. That is why I am doing so many shrugs…lol.
On the sets at 405#, it is usually 6-8 good reps and the last 2-4 are power shrugs. Nothing extreme, but definitely some leg assist.
I think, once I cross into 300# territory, on the 5x5, I will dump CGB for board presses. We will see

I keep telling my wife that. Strange, though, she never gets as old as I am.

Lol…that is SO true. I am starting to feel it too! I think I cracked my left metapansy bone.
Heh, I have heard when that happens, folks tend to start curling in the power rack for the extra support it provides to the pansy bone area. Fight the urge, man, fight the urge.
