Thanks Matty, Joe. Yeah, getting the workout done is not a problem. I am a creature of habit. Getting INTO the workout, that is not always easy. I was happy with the volume, though. And my traps and rear delts are a bit sore today. So I did something right.
Steve, I think you are spot on. I am sick of my shoulder hurting and sick of my arms looking disproportionately small, compared to the rest of me. I think I am going to migrate a bit towards muscle gain, while trying to hold where I am on the strength front. A little more mass (LBM) couldn’t hurt.
Dont feel bad.If I didn’t have any meat on my triceps id be up shit creek. So I’m in the same boat, that my upper body mass dwarfs my arms.
On a selfish note…will you be backing off on Millies?

Your progress, Mrs. S, is nothing short of amazing. For as short a time as you’ve been lifting, you’re already squatting more than BW. Wow. I’d say you have some serious natural affinity for this sport.
Thank you! I can’t believe how much fun I am having with it.

dday, right now MrsS is rocking it. I am just there for company and moral support.
Wait a min… I think she stole my mojo!
Muah ha ha ha! And I am not giving it back!!
Ill just add this for no real reason.
Today was bench. Last time I did it I got a 5x5 at 100lbs. Skip asked me if I wanted to stick with the 5x5 and I said sure. Famous last words.
Bench
barx8
65x5
85x3
105x4x2(no way to get that 5th rep. I’m a pansy.)
105x3 (Skip took the bar after that 3rd rep, said there was no point in trying for it)
105x4
105x3
These were all hard. I’ll give it another try for 5x5 next time, but I don’t think I’ll get it yet.
Seated Rows widegrip
90x8x4
Lat Pulls
90x8x4
Should have done close grip, but ran out of both time and ambition. All in all though, I’m pretty happy with it. IIRC, my bench max is only 115#, so getting that many sets/reps only 10lbs off my max doesn’t seem too shabby.
Deads
135x10
225x5
315x5
360x5 405x5x2 This MIGHT be a PR. My max reps at 405# is either 4 or 6…can’t recall and know I haven’t done it in over a year.
315x5
Back was worn out at this point, but decided to throw in a few light zerchers.
Zerchers
135x10
225x5x2
Left knee started hurting like hell. Stopped there. Knee is still hurting, right below the kneecap.
All in all, I am happy with the deads. 405 was heavy, but very manageable.

Bulldog, sometimes I feel like I am built like a snowman…lol. That, of course isn’t true. I have 18" arms, but with a 52" chest, they look smallish.
I will be backing off the millies for a bit. But, I will be doing CGB, so i hope to make up for it a bit. Also, I hope to get more direct tricep work in. I think my triceps are what is holding me back on MP…but that is just a guess.

Uh…just to be clear. This was my workout. I posted from her computer and was too “duh” to grasp that it was her account.
I don’t want anyone thinking that MrsS was sandbagging and went from a 250# max to doing sets of 5 with 405#.

In all reality I’m the same way. Just call me Frost. Its funny when I go into the YMCA and I see some guy who seems to have a big set of arms. Or at least compared to myself. But when I get close to them I find that there arms are almost 3 inches smaller then my own with a chest measurement close to 10 inches less then my own. Like I mentioned before If I didn’t have meat on my tri’s id be in trouble. Sorta like the one joke: You can always tell a power lifter in a gym, there the guys with the biggest arms but have the smallest biceps.
MrsS wasn’t feeling like lifting today. Lots of aches and pains, cramps. And I had one of those days. So, we just got in there, did some work to make sure the day counted, and called it good. I did get a PR out of it, though.
MrsS’ Workout
Deadlift
135x5
165x5
185x3
215x3
185x5
She called it there due to fatigue (she is fighting low iron) and back pain, from female issues, not lifting.
My workout
CGB
barx20
95x10
135x10
185x5
225x5
255x3
295x2
315x1 325x1 - PR +10# - probably had 10-15 more pounds in me
Seated Rows - Wide Neutral
100x15
160x12
210x10x3
Called it good enough. Shoulder is not hurting. but I am not doing anything to directly stress it.
4 day weekend! And, dammit, I am out of Jack Daniels!
Thanks George, null, dday… Sometimes you just gotta do something to keep the momentum going and remind the body that you aren’t planning to stop…just be a slacker for a day.
Dday, to you and all the other fathers as well. Being a parent should really come with a manual!
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” - First Corinthians 13:13.
I guess we are doing okay. Better to miss the little things than the big ones.
Bulldog, I’m not sure what you are apologizing for. Unless you are pointing out that I don’t have the biggest arms in the gym. Because I do! But only because MrsS is the only other person in the gym…lol. This is one of those places where long arms suck!
Also, I am back on the low(er) carb diet (trying to stay under 100g a day). I couldn’t figure out why I had bee peeing so much. Then I had a “duh” moment and remembered that I am shedding water weight. I can tell the difference after just 3 days.
I am trying to approach this with new found fervor (fervour to some of you). The biggest issue would be the food selections. At work, they tend to have a lot of carby stuff as main dishes, so I end up eating from the grill. Since grilled, boneless, skinless chicken breasts make me want to puke, that translates into a lot of burger patties. Bleck! With picky kids and wife, there aren’t always good alternatives to take as leftovers. In the past 4 days I had 2 meals with burger patties, 2 with meatloaf (individual meatloaves with spinach in them) and a chopped sirloin. In essence, 5 main dishes that are pretty much the same, in 4 days.
I have got to de-picky my family!

I tell my wife all the women at the gym were hitting on me…I lift alone in the basement. She says I’m a dork. I guess she’s right.

I’d be asking a lot of questions that’s for sure.
I love that you are keeping this log together and it’s great to have another woman around. Thanks for joining us MrsS.
Regarding the diet limitations, it sucks eating clean and lower carb, but guessing you are like me, it is necessary. My wife has also joined in on that for most food choices. We usually cook up several pounds of flank, sirloin, and chicken breasts every Sunday. Mix and combine with different frozen veggies or salads, also another god send is low carb tortillas for wraps, tacos, fajitas. All of the kids’ foods get put in the basement fridge because one week moment and a batch of mac and chesse can be gone, lol. Also keep around cottage cheese, low fat cheese sticks, etc

My wife made ribs and chicken in the crock pot yesterday. Mixed in stewed tomatoes and this packet of spice stuff…no BBQ sauce. ‘Cut with your fork’ low carb dinner.
