Hmmm…sounds like a new log title!
And definitely the kittens, Cav. Gone, but not forgotten. They got good homes and we still have our 3 + 1.
Last workout of the week…
MrsS did well. She did not hit a new 1RM, but we didn’t go fo one. Instead, she quadrupled the reps on her max.
Military Press
barx8
60x3
70x3
80x4 - PR +3 Reps
80x0 - I told her to attack the bar. She decided to caress it on this set.
80x3 - PR +2 Reps - She decided attacking it was more productive.
80x3 - PR +2 Reps
80x1
65x9 - she wanted that 10th one REAL bad, but was just too spent. Hell of a fight, though!
Supersets of Laterals and Rev. Flyes
Laterals
15x8x3
Rev. Flyes
15x8x3
Seated DB Press
25x7
25x6
25x5
She was so spent at this point
Me
I had to start with back, since MrsS needed the rack. i burned out quick. i don’t know if it is allergies or a cold, but fatigue was an early guest.
Lat Pulls - wide neutral
100x12
160x12
210x10
235x8x3
Seated Rows - wide neutral
160x12
235x10x3
CGB
barx15
135x10
185x10
225x5
255x5
Called it. Burned out and didn’t wan t be there.
MrsS’ millies are interesting. She got 80x4, but I can’t promise you she could have done 1 rep with 85# on the bar. Every 1st rep was a grinder. Maybe it is because 5# is 6% of her max, so 80# is 94% of her max, not 99%? I don’t now, but it is hard to wrap my head around the fact that you can go from 4 reps to 0 in 5#. Maybe her initial setup just needs some work. More explosiveness!
I’ve heard it said by a few people, including Wendler the Great himself, that the one difference between male and female lifters is that female lifters can do more reps at a higher % of their max than male lifters can. Which means those 1 RM calculators should be different for the two sexes as well I guess.

That is very inteesting. I had never heard that before. It would explain a lot.
Thanks, PG.
Watching women lift is always impressive, with proper coaching they seem to have such great form and MrsS is no different. Great lifting Strick Family.
Great stuff about your family. I lapped it up.
Regarding the 1 RM, I always find those calculators to be pretty bogus. I can certainly do more reps at a higher percent of max with upper body exercises. But not so with squat and DL. I can pull/squat far more in terms of singles than my reps would predict.
I do think Ms. S should start a log of her own.

Which means what? Women have a higher percentage of slow twitch fibers to fast twitch?
I’ve also had problems with the calculators, they never seemed to predict what I could do or not do. Like Mrs S, I’ll do 4 reps, then no reps, then 5 reps . . . just too many variables.
Thanks dday.
Snap, I keep hinting to her. Trying to get her to, at least, post her own workouts in this log.
And are you trying to make her single?? “Ms. S”

Make sure to keep your level of “grrrr” consistent. It amazes me how much difference that makes.
If your wife passes me in deadlifts I’m done lifting. I’ll start running or something.

I’d watch ‘Mr and Mrs Strick get all sweaty and pumped’. Depending on the rating.
Loving the new title!
I kiss my dad all the time, only if he shave though ![]()

That’s after the workout. And no cameras allowed. ![]()

I don’t have any idea what I can actually do. I suck with numbers and actually tend to do better if I don’t know how much is on the bar. Just goes to show how much of it is mental.

lol. That would be a safe choice, since I’d rather have a root canal than run for “fun”. But I don’t think you’re going to have to worry about it. That 250# was seriously, and I don’t think I’ll be moving up any time soon.

Also the amount of time I spend resting between sets. That makes an amazing amount of difference.

Indeed. I forget that not everyone takes 3-5 minutes between heavy sets.

I’ve mentioned it to Strick before, but in Thibaudeau’s HP mass program, he has the lifter working with 87.5% of bench and MP max, but only 80% of squat and DL max. So what you mention is “normal” (I know I’m the same way). I’m inferring that it’s due to the more taxing nature (full body taxing) of the sq/dl. To clarify, I meant that while a male might do 3 reps @ say 85% of max (of whatever exercise), a female in general would be able to do 5 reps given the same criteria. In general, of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.
I actually like the whole “lifting couple” thing; it’s different, and kind of cool.
edit to add: clarifying to avoid confusion, the HP mass program is based off of a 3 RM, not a 1 RM.

Yeah, but she got aggravated with me, yesterday. She said I was coaching too much and kept nagging about her needing to get her “grrr” up. Consequently, she got agitated with me, and her “grrr” went up. Eh…whatever it takes.
Hopefully, she wont take the “grrr” out on you.
