Lifting with the Stricks

MP max should be about 2/3 of your bench max. [/quote]

Is this based on Poliquin’s structural balance concept?

Thanks, Wilson. I have to figure out how to keep this going through 240#, so I don’t let Brett down…lol. That is going to be a job.

Yeah, don’t you let me down!

and well done on that 350 bench, is the 370 your all time PR?

I too fall into the two thirds category. My bench is crap and my military press is two thirds of crap!!

I have no idea what that is…lol.

This is based on averages, as far as I know. Multiple Google searches, multiple forums and making a ratio from the exrx.net strength standards. I made ratios from their bench and press numbers.

I am hopeful, Brett. I am going to give it my all for king and country. Oh wait…wrong country. You know what I mean. 1st one I miss is going to suck! There will be much frustration.

Yep. 370# is my all time best. 405# seems as far away as ever. Hopefully, increasing weight, while decreasing volume, will allow me to move a bit, while not sabotaging my MP…hopefully.

Funny how that 2:3 ratio seems to hold true on most.

Nice pressing -

I am with Farmer Brett- that my OH press is some ratio of crap!

I think I did read this from Poliquin

Thanks, kevin.

Deads
135x8
225x5
315x5x3
315x10

That’s it.

Mrs. Strick’s 5x5

Bench
barx8
80x5x5 - These were too easy for her. She never thought of struggling.

Deads
135x5
155x5
185x5x5 - These were a bit harder. Will only go up 5# next workout.

Lat Pulls
70x8
90x8x3

Mrs. Strick was still carrying fatigue from Saturday…as one would expect. We will see how she adjusts over the next week or so.

That 315x10 is getting pretty close to the cardio range. Mrs. Stricks DL seem to be going up fast.

Joe, the 315x10 felt like cardio. Of course, I am in bad shape.

She so doing so well! Her ulcer was bothering her, yesterday. I told her that she could put her workout off, until she felt better. She actually looked offended. And, of course, proceeded to do the workout.

Well, it appears then that the wife will fit in here just fine. We sure don’t like to stop what we like doing, do we?

I swear, the rate the wife’s going shes going to be able to put you in your place.

Yeah, Rug, I knew all hat was hiding in there. We just needed something to drag it out of her. She pursues things with a lot of determination. She , like me, is just careful to choose what she actually pursues.

Bulldog, I am keeping an eye on that. That fact is not lost on me. Fortunately, I still have 140# on her…lol.

Yeah x2. Pretty soon she’ll have her own log and be trying out squat suits.

Lol…she has a ways to go. Of course, she is 7 years younger than me. So I am getting older faster. Hope she doesn’t push me, in my wheelchair, down a flight of stairs!

Shoulders

Holy shit! This workout about put me under. Left shoulder hurt like hell the whole way through. Right now it feels like a chicken that has been cooked and is ready to be deboned. One liitle twist and it might come apart.

I got the damned reps. But it was ugly, painful and a hell of a lot of effort. It is really hard to believe that just 20# ago I was cruising through this like it was a cake walk.

Military Press - Had a helluva time breathing. Just couldn’t keep it together. On sets 3,4 and 5, I got light-headed.
barx20
95x10
135x8
185x5
215x3
235x5x5 - PR - Ugly sets…

Set 1

Set 3

Set 5 - I almost lost it on rep 5. That would have been a pisser.

Set 4 - The one that almost killed me and almost ended the streak. I went light-headed and blurry on rep 2. Lost my balance a bit, on rep 3. And just couldn’t breathe.

Supersetted Rear Delt Raises and light Laterals
Rear Delt Raises
40x10x3

Laterals
15x10x3 - dared not go higher with the shoulder pain, but needed to work it out a bit

Rear Delt Raises - one additional set
40x10

Mrs. Strick’s 5x5

Military Press
barx8
70x5x5 - these looked better than last week’s at 65#

Seated Rows
70x8
100x8x4

Squats
barx8
75x5
100x5x5 - looked pretty good on these. A tad fast, but slower than they used to be.
Set 3

Brett, the 240x5x5 is looking really iffy.

Frankly, I’m concerned about how much pain you’re in. I wouldn’t push it if it’s the wrong kind of pain. Easy for me to say now.

Snap, it doesn’t feel like anything is tearing, or the like. I really think it is just that damned bicep tendon. I’m not sure what to do about it. I have gotten shots for it. I have avoided exercises that made it hurt. It always comes back, though.

It has been worse with the higher weight and reps combo. Once the 5x5 fails, I will drop the number of reps and see what happens. Eventually, I will go back to the doc and see what he can see.

1st, though, I need to payoff the bills for the wife’s and kid’s visits to the Dr. and dentist.

How long are you leaving between sets? Probably not enough if you are getting ‘gassed’. Leave longer.

and don’t kill yourself man, it’s not worth that, although… it would make a cool epitaph, “died doing what he enjoyed most, hitting 240 for 5 sets of 5 on millies!” LOL.

Awesome grit and determination shown on that 4th set, just awesome effort.

I think you’ll get that 240 on sheer strength of will, after that I dunno.

Brett, I haven’t been paying attention. My guess is that I am taking 3 - 4 minutes between sets. Sometimes it MIGHT be less than 3 minutes, between sets 1 and 2…sometimes more than 4, between the last 2 sets. But I think 3 - 4 is a safe bet. If I let it run more than 5 minutes, I start to cool down and it makes it worse.

“Grit and determination” is just a severe aversion to failure and losing. I detest being beaten, even by inanimate objects.

As for the 240#…
If yesterday is an indication of how it is going to go, it is going to take everything I can muster to pull it off. Bad form, on a single rep, might sink the ship.

Honestly, I am feeling fatigued and beat up. If I could manage to go into it feeling recovered, I think it would go. I’m not sure how to do that without a deload. But I am going to try to pull it off by going light on Saturday and Monday.

We shall see…

Great milies, you are one strong mo-fo Strick.
