Just getting caught up here. Damn, lots of good numbers for you and the little lady. I’m glad she is catching the fever
On the blood sugar issue, even if I don’t eat enough before training I can salvage a good session if I mix up about 30-40g of gatorade powder, a healthy scoop of creatine and 2 scoops of BCAAs plus a scoop of whey (or 2 scoops of whey if no BCAAs around). I drink about 1/3 before and the rest during.
It’s time for some vids of your wife’s progress. Please! I gotta admit, Strick, that I tune in and read about your wife’s antics before I read about yours. She is doing an amazing job. Already hitting a BW squat! A dive bomber, eh? I used to do that. But no more since I moved to wide stance. What’s her stance like? If she has really flexible hips, she might ultimately have better control with a wider stance.
And I gotta admit I totally cringed when I watched that 500-lb. pull of yours. You are a wise man to back off of that shit. I am prone to pull with bad form when the reps are high. Consequently, I pick training programs that are low rep and I go to singles past a certain weight.

Snap, I am working on the videos. I think she will be ready for some in the very near future.
We tried her with several stances. This is the one she felt most comfortable with. It is rather narrow, to be honest. But, for now, it is getting it done. It is also odd to watch her squat. She is duck-footed. Her toes are out about 30%, but her knees track well inside. I haven’t noticed any caving. That is what is comfortable, though.
We will toy with a wider stance.
That 500# pull was an ego driven lift. I REALLY wanted to hit 500#! I had only been back at lifting for 4 months, after a 9 year absence. On top of that, I had just finished losing 110#, from cardio and really, really light resistance training. I lost a lot of mass and strength. Couple the lack of back strength, especially middle and upper, with my fear of the weight, and that is what you get. A massive PR that should have never been attempted, because I never setup properly and even if I had, all the parts were not strong enough to do the lift properly.
Live and learn. I survived, unscathed, and hopefully learned not to be that stupid or impatient.
Something about that DL video kept nagging me… and after watching it about 10 times it hit me. Overall form is pretty good, but you need to keep your arms relaxed all the way through the lift. If you look carefully at the video you’ll see a slight flex in elbow joint right at lock-out. That is the kinda of thing that ends with biceps tears at heavier weights.

Are you talking about the 405# pull?
If so, I see what you mean. It looks like the biceps come in, above the knee, on 385# and 405#. Below that weight, it looks like it is from an angle change in the arm and me pulling past my lats. But you can see the flexing in the heavier two.
Good catch!
Bench is looking real good. Nearly at 300 for 5 x 5. A lot of people can’t squat that!!
Don’t fret about that old 500 deadlift video, I think we’ve all done that a few times (I know I have). The important thing is you weren’t injured and you made sure not to do it again. That’s how we get experience.
Played around with form a bit. My long torso is making some of it a pain. I feel better about it, though.
Also, with 405#, I tried a set doing it without a reset and one with. I think I prefer the latter. Without the reset, my hips drop, in setup, and rise early, on the 2nd rep. Videos to follow.
Deadlift
135x5
225x5
215x5
365x2
405x1
455x1 - bad grip on right hand, but got the rep.
405x2x2
405x2 - no reset
405x2 - with reset
Mrs. Strick’s Workout
Bench
barx8
65x5
90x3 100x1 - PR +5# - would have gotten a 2nd but hit the rack 105x1 - PR +10# - Woo Hoo! Over 100#!
95x2.5
Mrs. Strick has claimed her 1st bill, on bench! Good day.
Also (Snap…pay attention) I have been given permission to post future videos. We will work on getting some.
I just watched those 2 videos again. Damned if I don’t look exactly like a silverback gorilla, at the start of the 2nd video…broad shoulders, short legs, bent over, fucking bulging gut. I’m a knuckle dragger!

Snap, I agree. She is doing great. Just a few form tweaks and she will be prime.
Ogre, no worries. I look like an gorilla. I am NOT strong like an gorilla.
Joe, you are correct. I much prefer looking like a gorilla.
Matty, I don’t mind looking like a gorilla. It would just be nice to be as strong as one. Maybe when I grow up.
My shoulders are fatigued today. 5 sets above 400# wore me down. Hopefully that does not impact tomorrow’s millies. I am up to 215# and am feeling the self generated pressure to get the reps.
Steve, I am pleased. Though doing 500# again would be nice. Funny, but every video I take makes it look easy…MP, Deads, Bench. But NONE of it FEELS easy. If I could get the two to merge, I would really be rocking.
