Lifting with the Stricks

I agree with Matty. The DL form actually looks really decent to me. I’m not sure what you’re stressing about.

You guys keep making me look at the videos again…lol.
Okay, it wasn’t bad. My ass is still moving a tad early and, hence, my arms are not quite as vertical as I would like…for a non-maximal lift. It is slight, but I am a perfectionist. If I can’t do it right with sub-maximal weights, it doesn’t bode well for max attempts.

For reference, this is my 500# pull from August of 2009. Still my heaviest pull ever.

I don’t EVER want my form to be this bad again.

Punny’s right, the new millies do look good, but will believe you that they felt hard.

And Mrs Strick is tearing up the weights! She’s progressing faster on DL than I have! Is there something in the water in Oklahoma?

Oh yes, I can’t grow a beard either, so I’m jealous of that too.

Mrs Strick is definitely rocking the weights.

Just so you know I’m not just blowing smoke at 'ya…ok, that 500 was (potentially) injury bad!

Check your 405 video again -the first rep was very, very close to your lighter pulls; the 2nd was a little worse, then the 3rd a little more so, but still decent for repping heavy. Personally, I don’t rep deads at all at 80% or greater because my form is not the best, and I have to really really focus on keeping my form decent at heavier percentages.

NO STRAPS!
for 500!!!

Awesome!

Cav, I think she already had a lot of this strength. It was just a matter of getting her body used to utilizing it. It will slow down. I just hope not for a while.

Bulldog, she is! I am really happy that she has stuck with it and ecstatic that she is actually enjoying herself.

PG, that 500 was bad. I was intimidated by it and attacked it rather than actually setting up properly. Stupidity of youth!
The reps at 405# gradually worsened because of fatigue (obviously) and because I had intended on only doing 1 rep. The other 2 were after thoughts. Never good to change horses in the middle of a stream.

Or invincibility. Take your pick.

You tend to get wet when that happens.

210 x 5 x 5 ? Looks like I need to step up my game for are race.

No doubt.

Maybe. But 210x5 is not 215x7.5.

Speaking of…I have been considering repping out on my last set of 5x5. I am not sure if that is a good idea, as I don’t want to sabotage what is working. I do have reps to spare, though.
Thought?

Thos MPs went up real easy, that was pretty awesome. The 500 pull considering the weight and the layoff was excellent, now Im the last one to be doling out advice as my form on lighter weight blows…but maybe you kinda were doing what I have issues with your arms, by slacking them out more, either way awesome pull man. Im sick as hell and these vids are making me jealous lol.

Matty, that 500 pull was old. I did that in August of '09…4 months after I started lifting again, after a near 10 year layoff.
If my form ventures there now, I will end the lift.

My upper back is much stronger now, than then…well, my everything is stronger. So, hopefully that never happens again.

facepalm* well a 500 pull after only 4 mos of training is pretty impressive! my bad man.

Strong work Skip. MP are looking strong.

No problem. I just wanted to point that out so that you wouldn’t think I had let me current form get so bad.
I was impressed with getting the 500, even with the shitty form. Having never really deadlifted before in my life, until the 4 month stretch. I guess being fat had its benefit. My back was used to moving a ton.
In that video I was about 80# lighter than I had been 2 years before…up 30# from my lowest.

Speaking of weight, and some of you might find this hard to believe, when I was 28, I got down to 187#. It SUCKED! I weigh 280# right now. I weighed 250# in that 500 DL video. Can you see me 60+ pounds lighter than that!? I had tiny everything. I lost so much mass.

My wife told me, when I hit 222#, this last loss cycle, that I was too “small”. She told me that it wasn’t “me”. So…I am hoping for about 250#, again, but with more muscle.

Yeah…I noticed, right after I did the 5x5 with 205#, you did the same. Just couldn’t let me feel special for even a week, could you? lol

Thanks. I am really hoping that I can get the 5x5 through 225#. Higher, if possible. It is only 15# more than Wednesday. But 15# can be a ton.

Chest and Back

Well, Mrs. Strick showed me up again. I am kind of getting used to it, though.

Blood sugar went wonky again today. I really need to figure this weekend diet shit out. By the 3rd set of bench, I could feel the drain. After the last set, my legs and arms were shaky. I never fully crashed (dizzy, nauseous, cold sweats, etc…), but had zero energy. I took about 3 minutes between sets, after the bench. I would regain enough energy to do the set, then I was blasted again. I hate days like these.
Got the reps, though.

Mrs. Strick hit lots of PRs and a couple of biggies on squats. One issue…she dive bombs them. And I mean a RAPID descent. It is under control, but way too fast. We are going to work on this. I am so proud! And she was, just as with the deads PR, thrilled…all smiles.

Nice 5x5 PR

and congrats to the missus on a BW squat!

Thanks soldog. She is doing great, isn’t she…
