I was reading a interview with Dan Lurie.Dan is the former trainer of Big Lou (The Hulk) Ferringo.
During the interview he was asked how Lou trained.
The response was:
I told him to do mostly lighter weights with higher repetitions, but Louie liked to lift heavier and do less repetitions. And he only wanted to bulk up. I think he got up to around 285 at one time. He said when he cut back down he would be even better. I said, “Louie, it does not work that way.” I wanted him to gradually build up and get good definition. But he had his own way of training.
Why would Dan want to train Lou using high reps and light weight? especially for a guy of his size?
Lou obviously build a world class body using heavy weights low reps.
But people build heaps of muscle using light weight.
I see this all the time, pro wrestler’s,pro bodybuilders, general big units at the gym.
They seen to do weights which be considered piss poor on this site.
What is the main reason for the light lifting? I thought to build mass heavy weight had to be used so the muscle would get bigger to cope with such huge weights?
Does anybody on T-Nation train with light weight and have a good physique??
Peace
