Keep up the inspirational work, man! I’m looking forward to seeing you getting stronger and healthier as the weeks go on. And I’m really happy to read the good news over the last couple of weeks.

Right so today I decided I’m unhappy with my efforts of late, so I held a micro meet with myself in the basement. I have heard of mini meets, but this one was using micro weights.
I’ve been guilty of not putting in enough effort and it’s time to remedy that.
While they are nothing on past achievements, I am proud that for the first time since my operation I lifted 100kg. And I am proud of the progress I have made in all lifts to date.
These were perhaps not Absolute Maxes, but they were Safe Maxes, which when you have a barely healed foot-long abdominal incision, you need to pay mind to! Literally busting a gut is not admirable, it is stupid.
So I will use these singles as my baseline for the next cycle, whatever shape it may take.
Happy lifting to all :).

A high stakes game such as this requires serious dedication to cheating!

Thanks bro! Yeah my stress levels are low, it’s amazing what an impact emotional stress can have on your well-being. Feeling awesome since I got my good test results, despite being back on the poison.
And yeah I look forward to re-building my slightly broken body haha.

So since I am not going max effort for my squat and deadlift, I figured I may as well do them on the same day so I still get a decent leg workout. I’ll do the usual add 5kg to my max every 3 weeks, and slowly rebuild my strength. Should be back at 400lb squat in a year haha.

-So it’s day 1 of my 3rd chemo cycle. My bloods came back fantastic (creatinine kidney function 109 down from 157!) and my haemoglobin etc is all really good. Pretty damn happy really!
-They’ve increased my capecitabine dose from 4 x 500mg to 5 x 500mg and will monitor me closely to see how I respond :).
-I’ve gained 2kg since my last cycle began, which pleases me immensely. Haha my daughter said my neck is starting to look like a tree trunk again. I’ve always been called Thick Neck and it horrified everybody to see me with a “normal” size neck after my operation.
Happy Easter everybody
That’s amazing that you’ve gained weight through all this shit! Good luck with cycle 3!

Mind-blowingly good news!
To refresh, a few weeks ago I had a CT scan done which showed what appeared to be a lump growing on my stomach lining (suggesting an inoperable tumour) and also a dodgy mark in my liver, again suggesting new tumour.
This, combined with my bloods being dodgy and my tumour markers rising suggested really bad stuff was happening inside me.
I hadn’t detailed this on my log as the doctors didn’t tell me the seriousness until today, which I am thankful for.
But today we got the results of a new CT plus PET scan and both the lumps have completely vanished, my tumour markers have gone down, and the PET scan showed Nothing at all. Apparently the panel of doctors had like 6 meetings to try and make sense of it, but yeah news is alllll good.
Fucking ridiculously stoked and blown away by it.
So this means I can continue my chemotherapy as of today and everything is back on track. They also explained my kidney issue - apparently an undiagnosed pre-existing kidney weakness which was exacerbated by my chemo. And the pains are likely a result of bowel adhesions; should fade with time.
My Dad and I prayed for ages before heading to the clinic today, and I had both my parents there with me. Was just simply amazing to get this news.[/quote]
Cancer and the human body are truly both a mysterious beast.
Congrats on the incredibly good news, even if it is close to a month old.
Thanks guys!
@Fletch yeah man it’s so fucking hard to gain weight haha, but slowly getting there. I think until my guts are all healed and such it could be a very tedious process.
@Magick cheers man, I appreciate it. Felt so awesome to get such good news after a fairly average run haha.

Was pretty weird doing an arms day. Also quite a long “week” haha. All good, enjoying my lifting!
its arms day everyday bro. ![]()
Little update:
I got hospitalised for a couple of days with severe dehydration (again haha) but I’m back out and on the loose again. Will wait another day or so to recover fully before lifting though.
Annoyingly, they can’t really explain my dehydration. I’m drinking 4L water per day, but it seems the drugs just dry me out overnight, always wake up thirsty as and a couple of kg lighter.
If anyone has genius ideas on how to aid hydration I’d love to hear it ![]()
nothing genius on my side. but here goes anyways
i’m’ assuming you’ve been making sure to get all the sodium/potassium/electrolytes you need? if not try pedialite or gatorade or whatever.
i’ve found if i drink water with a bunch of fiber it tends to stick in the system longer, like metamucil or something, but with double the recommended amount of water.
you could also try waking yourself up in the middle of the night to drink some fluid. thats what my uncle does for his kidney problems.
here’s a more in depth look at hydration: http://www.completehumanperformance.com/proper-hydration.html
Great thing about the gatorade idea is that it’ll help maintain or raise your weight too. I guess keep a jug by your bed stand and set an alarm like zenon said.
oh and a humidifier in your room will stop you from losing as much water through your lungs. we lose a surprising amount of water from our lungs if the air is dry.
Cheers, I went and bought a heap of gatorade powder and between that and the coconut water I seem to have improved a lot. Waking myself up in the middle of the night to drink fluids is definitely not a problem when you’re drinking over 4L a day haha.
I got the docs to check my potassium etc and it’s fine, anyway I’m well enough to lift again today after 1 full week off, so all is good :).

First day back into it, really happy with my amrap on the bench press. 3 more reps than last time, and I worked up to my current training max for a double (fwiw haha).
I think my hydration is ok now, as I felt the “drive” to lift for the first time since I got hospitalised.
