This is so awesome.
Stops me using my sore throat and runny nose as an excuse.

Haha I don’t know, Man Flu can be a fairly dire affliction
Plugged in my new “maxes” today. It’s a bit misleading as for Cycle 1 I listed my estimated maxes, rather than the 90% Training Maxes. So this time I have listed my Training Maxes… hence why it looks like Press and Squat have stayed the same. They haven’t actually. Also I am proud to announce I will be using more weight on bench than squat. Anyway, it’s all light weight and this means little haha… on with the job!

Notes:
Feeling fairly healthy today, so I will be off for my chemo tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed my bloods show I’m recovered from the colitis / kidney problems and able to proceed with treatment!
Doin great in here, man. I don’t think I could lift the pink dumbbells without any core involvement.

Yeah I must say it’s pretty weird going against everything I have ever learned about bracing the abs and protecting the spine haha. Those pink dumbbells are probably my current 1RM ![]()
Disappointed by another glitch in my treatment. In my pre-chemo inspection today, the oncologist identified inflammation in my gut and he wasn’t comfortable starting my next chemo cycle yet.
So I have to get a CT scan to try and identify whether it’s a mechanical issue with my newly routed intestines, a bacterial infection, or whether it’s lingering inflammation from my colitis. Either way, treatment delayed by another week.
Must be time to do some lifting.

I’ve changed my template slightly to a 7 day affair, with a couple of barbell row days to get extra work in. I figure 5 x 10 is a logical way to start.
Thanks for the advice over on the wendler forum…my son is attacking his illness head-on and is following your log…he had already started chemotherapy, just waiting for his platelets increasing so they can do the surgery(it’s 3/4 today) and they said the surgery will be performed this week(3/6 or 7)… Being an actor who has to portray an image- he was bummed to lose his hair but realizes that is cosmetic…knows he’s got bigger fish to fry now…will keep you updated. Thanks again

Cheers and no worries! I bet that’s doing his head in but the hair will grow back fast after his treatment is done :). Mine’s thinning too but I don’t mind shaving if it gets dire. And you’re correct; everything becomes secondary when your health is on the line. Again, strength you your son.

Guts are a total nightmare at the moment, really noisy and lots of pain and cramping. I’m off for a CT scan in two days, to determine if I’ve got an ileus or something. Bright side: they told me due to the massive toxicity I suffered, the first cycle would likely have been just as effective as two normally are. So that makes me feel a bit less like I’m wasting valuable treatment time recovering.
Cycle 2 Week 1 Day 4
6/3/14

Shocked at how weak I am at dipping now haha. Last year I was easily doing multiple high-rep sets with weight strapped on!
Stay strong brother. You’re a bad ass. I’m glad you got a hot medical student. Most of them let themselves go. Good luck with everything and I look forward to seeing your training progress.
God bless, vigilance
Dan
Man it is nice whenever I come across your log.
Keep at it.
Good luck and stay strong brother.
Thanks for the positive encouragement, guys. Hope your own training is going awesome too.
I had a two day break as my daughter came to stay with me, and I have a new puppy which I’ve been chasing around after. But back at it today!

Off to my chemo appointment tomorrow, where I will get the results of my scan. Fingers crossed it’s a nice easy to fix problem and I can continue my treatment. Though I won’t lie; I do not feel in great condition so if they delay my chemo again it would be a partial blessing. But I really do want to get this shit over and done with.

Sooo… no chemo again. Apparently the CT scan dye (injected into my veins) has stuffed up my kidneys again, but they are pretty certain I will be fine for next Tuesday.
Bright side, the CT scan showed no issues in my abdomen, which is good. Though… it means the ongoing abdominal pains are “probably muscular, related to the healing of my surgical wound” according to the doctors. They told me to stop any strenuous activity, which sucks. So I guess I will not AMRAP my squat and deadlift final sets, and maybe just not push Quite so hard in general. But overall I won’t change my training - hopefully the pain is residual from my colitis and just fades with time.
They’d only finished reviewing half my scan so once they’ve reviewed the chest part of it, I should have a phone call in the next few days to confirm there are no new tumours developing in my liver or lungs. Pretty scary phone call to be waiting for, but I am confident I am healed already and the chemo is just a formality.

As per my oncologist’s advice I have reduced the intensity by not amrap’ing the final set and doing fairly mild assistance.
Keep at no matter what.
Stay strong brother
I hate hearing this happened to you! I wish I had something motivational to say… but truth be told I’m the one being motivated haha. You’re an inspiration. Good luck!!!
What’s up bro, Glad to be of service! I think being sick has really made me appreciate the physical abilities we usually have when we are healthy. Humans are capable of incredible levels of adaptation and self improvement. I fucking love lifting weights, and can’t wait until this treatment is behind me so I can get strong as fuck without the constant hindrance of a massive cancer leeching all my nutrients and strength.

Got the rather shitty news from my work that they will no longer be helping me out with leave. I’ve been on 8 weeks of special leave to help me get used to chemo etc, after using up all my holidays and sick days.
I’ve managed to work 25 hours per week (standard is 40) during this period of leave despite not being paid for it, trying to be a good cunt and not sit around being a leech.
Was hoping this would earn me some karma and get maybe a 10 hour per week supplement to allow me some down time when in hospital or really unwell, but nope!
So as of April 1st I will be working full time again or losing a large portion of my income. I would hate being broke so yeah, just going to have to man up and be grateful for the fact I have a job and am physically able to work. And if people hear me vomiting in the bathrooms, I will get some morbid satisfaction.
