besides what skizak told me, Ive never really heard of many people having bicep tears reom a mixed grip, hell I use a mix grip for more than just deadlifts, Ill trow them in on heavy chins once in a while, and I use it alot for shrugs too, I just alternate the had placement every set
Also I’ve heard that you get bicep tears not from grip related but form jerking the deadlift off the ground.
Use straps if you feel the need. Fuck what others think. If you want to use straps/gloves/metal socks do so because its for you. You’re lifting for yourself and not others, right?

The one biceps tear that happened while I was present was during the lockout, and the lifter did not jerk the weight off of the ground.
The biceps functions as wrist supinator, so even if the arm is totally straight, the biceps is flexed.
I’m really not sure what causes tears. The other two guys I know who’ve had tears got theirs just from doing light stuff, not anywhere near maximal lifts. It could be a lack of flexibility, tissue quality, genetics, or a combination of factors.
