I just got a pair of those VS athletics weightlifting shoes.
I’ve never worn elevated lifting shoes like these before , they are probably the clunkiest things i’ve ever worn other than actual workboots .
I like the straps , i like the hard sole , but i dont like the heel height. It feels like too much and it makes them retardedly clunky to walk in for ANY distance, like i dont even want to walk to the water fountain at the gym.
Do you know of any shoes around of a similar make that have a lower heel height?
Say 3/4 to half the height of these.
Ok ok . Dont laugh. I just figured to take them to a shoe repair shop and cut the heel down to about 1/2 inch.
UHHHhhm though im not sure what to expect since there is only a thin layer of hard rubber tread on the bottom of the shoe but then the rest of the heel is wood inside (i think)
It might end up being a mistake , though …over my short while of adulthood and financial independence it wouldnt be the first hundred bucks i have squandered.
I got some Rei Wuis with a 3/4in heel lift recently for PL and I love them. I can get keep my back and feet arched a lot easier and track my knees so easily. I only barely have to sit back to open my hips now so I can now get a lot more spring out of the hole. I can actually push through my heels with my quads and not end up pitching my back forward which happened in workboots with the same heel lift.
Anyway, I was wondering what exactly about the heel lift is it that you don’t like? I understand the walking thing, the only thing I use those shoes for is barbell front and back squats and sometimes deadlifts for variation.
If nothing else and you can’t return the shoes, lower the heel, or can’t get used to them you have a slight variation of the lifts that’s more quad dominant.
You’ll get use to the lifting shoes. I have a pair of VS athletics and I love them. At first walking to the water fountain felt so awkward but now that I’ve worn them for 6 months or so everything feels great in them.
I own a pair of Romaleos and they’re just the shit. If you can spend some (more) money on shoes, I reccomend getting them. Nike just put a fresh batch out there, last time they made them was in late 2011.

Hate to inform you, but Adipowers have the same heel height as all other shoes, approx 3/4" difference between front of shoe and back of shoe. Rom’s are roughly the same, but adjust based on shoe size. This makes the heel height about 1" total. The VS Athletics are something like 1.3" total, so only about 1/4" more than adidas.
OP, you might find that cutting them all the way down to 1/2" height will be too much taken off them.

So they give an entire 1" heel lift? I can see how that would be a bit much.

I’ve tried on a pair and have to agree with this. I’m definitely going to be buying the red ones so I can feel like Lu Xiaojun.
Everywhere I look they say the heel is either .5 or .6 plus there is a slight compression when you stand in them. I did measure them after reading this and the heel measured at 1" there has to be a reason everyone is saying .5-.6.

Yeah, 1" total. For most people, that is a little too much, especially if you have even decent flexibility.

They’re not walking shoes… “The clue is in the name.”
