Nice squats CTL! 365#x3 is really strong. The 405# is right there And I agree, saving the gas from those extra 2 reps at 365# might have been the difference.
DaddyZombie, awesome avatar, he was the best. I actually went to a Lane Tech homecoming many many years ago as a sophmore in high school, probably around 1980, but I’m from the lower south side by the original Home Run Inn.
Hel, not doing anything special for the grip, just pulling. I’ve been inconsistent with Kroc Row, but when I have done them they put an ache in the forearms. Thanks.
LS, I’m feeling it today, but that’s a good thing.
Today’s workout:
Bench 45x15, 95x10, 135x8, 165x5, 195x3, 225x2, 255x2, 185x12
Incline 95x12, 135x8, 155x6, 175x4
Chest Supported Row: 135x15, 150x12, 165x10, 180x8, 195x6
Dips 0x10x7, 10x8, 15x4, 20x4
CTL - Nice lifting! I wish I could bang out Rows like that…
CTL just thought id stop in and see how youre doing. Good job and keep it up.
405 is there buddy… whenever you want it. Try 315 x1 or x2 (after your warmup), then 365 x 1 then go right to 405… betcha nail it!!
Took an unexpected deload due to getting busy but it was probably necessary. Went back on 5/3/1 starting yesterday (although I do 3/5/1) to get more reps in my workouts.
Yesterday was bench; top set was 220x6 on my 3 rep day. Assitance exs are incline bench, rows and dips; will probably add curls as well.
Today was deadlift; top set was 340x5. I was really winded after this set. I thought I’d be good for 10 reps because I set my training max at 85% of my 1 RM. I also forgot chalk, but I think the main issue is that I just need to get stronger in a higher rep range. No biggie, just something else to shoot for. I would be really interested how each of you breathe during a higher rep deadlift set.
Followed up with good mornings and Bulgarian Split Squats. My balance is terrible on these but I get an awesome quad hip flexor stretch and I think the one legged work will be good for me.
Thats all for now.
Old Goat, rows aren’t really that impressive because they are on a machine. I need to get stronger on my back.
FF, thanks for dropping by; I’ll catch up on your log in a second.
Thanks Bunny, 405 will fall soon enough.
Nice work CTL. I am also running 5-3-1. On the dead money set, I treat them like singles with about 5 seconds rest between pulls. This lets me run out of strength before I run out of wind. Then I do touch-and-go on the BBB sets and pull as fast as I can. My P-Chain gets totally torched this way and I generally feel like puking for about 20 mins. afterwards.
CTL no problem im not running a log right now anyways haha. But i am asking for 5-3-1 as my christmas gift and i know a lot of people swear by it. So i take it that its worth it? i would be starting it around the first of the year if thats the case? Any pros or cons you have noticed? And if i get it maybe we can work a day in lifting together haha.
Jack, thanks for the advice, may give that a try.
FF, I know now, searched for you log and didn’t find it. I like 5-3-1 as a way to get higher reps. I think I’m better at lower reps, but know I need to work in the higher rep range every now and then. 5-3-1 does a great job setting goals for you and I really like it for that.
Last nights workout:
Military Press: Barx15, 65x12, 85x8, 105x3, 120x3, 135x8
Pullups (assisted) -165x10, -135x5, -105x3
Lat Pulldown 90x15, 140x8; 180x4
DB Bench 40x15, 55x12, 70x10, 85x8, 95x6 (move up to 100’s next workout)
DB Row 40x15, 60x12, 70x12
Dips 0x10, 15x5, 20x5
Left shoulder hurting a little from of all things, playing basketball.
Nice lifts in here! Welcome to the Forum! Sorry man I am a Life long Viking Fan!
Nice workout, CTL. Take care of the shoulder!
CTL- strong pressing!! looking good.
Nice workout, Chi.
Colin, thanks for the welcome. Your Vikings are kicking but this year.
LS, shoulder already feeling a little better, I think I may take out incline benches and replace with a DB press on my bench day.
Thanks OG and Math.
Yesterday’s workout:
Squat: BWx15, Barx12, 95x10, 135x8; 185x5 235x3, 270x3; 305x7
RDL: Barx15, 95x12, 135x10, 185x8, 205x5 Grip issues with last rep of 185 and had to switch to regular DL grip on last 2 reps of 205. I don’t want to use straps so I’ll have to work through this.
Front Squat: Barx8, 55x8, 65x8 Going very slow as I try to get my finger and wrist strength/flexibility accustomed to the bar. Something fun to learn, but I may eventually switch to the arms crossed version of the front squat.
EZ Curl 30x15, 50x12, 60x10, 70x8; these are also new for me, haven’t done for sometime due to an injury. WOrking up slowly.
Looks like strong work. The grip issue will work itself out over time, just keep pulling. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sorry it took so long to get over here. You’re doing a lot of great training. I use the cross arms for front squats. I gave up on holding the bar Olympic style, no wrist flexibility.
