Lift Like a Girl

Late leaving work last night and had volleyball so went in only to do my bench portion of 5/3/1. I will do some bench accessory work tonight after squats.

Cycle 1 Week 2: 120 max (108 for 5/3/1)
Bench:
45x10x2
75x3 (70%)
85x3 (80%)
95x13 (90%) (+5lbs, +1 rep from last week)

Told the guys if I had thrown in a few sets of biceps it would have been the typical Monday male workout. Instead I went and played an hour of volleyball (and I have my overhand serve back now that my shoulder/chest are feeling better wooooo!).

I really need to get more sleep though so I can have some energy. I’ve been super flat for what feels like forever. And on a final happy note, I have 11 more working days that I will be employed for. Yay!!!

Fixed that for you

When was the last time you played ball with me.

Yeah. That’s what I thought.

I don’t need to play ball with you. I have my sources. Apparently you still get confused about the difference between sets and sex.

They both involve balls. Of course I get confused. Plus all the hotties with their shirts off… how am I supposed to be able to concentrate?

I forgot to mention that some douche took out my knee last night. It hurt like hell and throbbed all night but feels alright today. He basically hung on the net and then came under it and hit the side of my knee, making my knee buckle. I apparently won the battle at the net, but wasn’t concerned about it. He continued to play the ball and when everyone else stopped (because clearly he was both on the net and under onto our side causing interference) he tried to argue it was their ball.

One of the guys on my team then had me rotate out of the setting position for the rest of our games so I wouldn’t have to move around too much. I’m playing with him another night since one of their girls broke her hand so he wanted me to feel better for Thursday. It was okay except when I would jump to hit because I always land on my left leg first. I would either jump awkwardly to land on my right or forget it and land on my left and not be impressed with myself.

I will admit to playing volley ball in HS…
cross country, track wrestling- then volleyball

I got bored after wrestling- had a blast needless to say
my jumping was not so good.

I like how you work balls or bitchiness into every post.
that is work.

Les Squats:

Squats
45x10x2
135x5x1
160x3x1 (70%)
185x3x1 (80%)
205x7x1 (90%) → +10lbs, -1 rep from last week

Leg Press
225x15x5
315x12x5

Lying Leg Curl
80x12x5

Bent Over BB Row (to balance out my lack of accessory work yesterday)
95x10x4

Was a good session and pretty quick. I had places to go, things to do, people to see. I was successfully able to ignore the old fat guy who has taken it upon himself to tell me that I’m going to hurt my knees by squatting too low. He should know…he used to powerlift. Oh and also, I’m going to overactivate my gluteus maximus by squatting… to which one of the guys replied “I sure hope so. Her squatter’s ass is coming in quite nicely”.

I was also asked by a guy I see in there regularly when I was going to train legs with him because he never knows what to do and it’s hard to grow his quads. I responded that it’s hard to grow legs if you never train them muahaha. Then he kept looking at my legs. I decided I will do a “fun” legs session with him either Friday or Saturday depending on when I go down to my club. I asked him if he was tough and he said yes… we’ll see…

Niagara PL Club - Friday night.

To say it was a shitshow in there would be an understatement. Nothing and nobody was off limits. Too many people were benching when I got there so I decided to squat first. (PS. Obviously club days are off my Wendler plans).

Squats
135x5x2
185x5x1
225x1x1
Suit bottoms, knees wrapped
255x3x3 → all very easy and quick

Bench
45x10x1
75x5x1
95x3x1
Shirt on (aka the real purpose of the trip to the club…haven’t had a good day in my shirt since before my last meet):
135x3x1 → 2 board
155x2x1 → 1 board
175x1x4 → to chest

All my singles felt good and I had more control over them that I had in a while. There was talk of moving up to 180/185 but I said I’d rather have a good day at a lighter weight.

I can feel my weight loss in how my shirt fits. It makes it easier to control and touch because it’s not so damn tight. My squat suit also felt much looser (and it’s already a loose suit) but since I was using such a light weight it didn’t matter.

Went out last night with one of the lifting ladies and a few of the guys. It was good fun until my foot got stomped on by some slutty dressed drunk chick coming off the “stage” to go home with the guy who was groping her. She was wearing heels and went right onto my sandal clad foot. Went and got xrays this morning and it’s not broken, but it’s certainly bruised. Hurts to put pressure on anything other than my heel. Just lovely.

I heard it was a busy night and that your bench was good and solid and there was a lot of chatting.

It was super busy… felt like a Saturday to be honest. I don’t even know what time it was by the time we got out of there. A lot of chatting is an understatement. Lots of laughs (per usual). I may or may not have been very rude to one of the guys (aka the creeper who reads my log that never comments aka kiddo) but he kind of deserved it. I also nicknamed him shithead. I was in fine form

It was too bad I had to leave just as you started benching in your shirt, I was looking forward to seeing you lift. You must have been there pretty late because I only got out of there at about 7:20pm or so, and you had just but your shirt on.

I’m not sure how late we were there but I know that we were eating dinner at 9pm (after showering). Hoi had to squat too so we waited for him to finish that before we left.

We had a few good chuckles about how you were there on your anniversary…

Priorities!

As I said, it wasn’t a big one, just number 11. Actually I think it counted as my anniversary present… if so, I’ll take it.

I’ve been training, just too busy to post. The major highlights are all from this weekend when I was down at the club both Friday and Saturday. They are:

Friday Squat:
New personal best of 345lbs!!!

I used the tighter suit I’ve been deadlifting in lately. I lost my air right as I came out of the hole so it was definitely a bit of a struggle, but I pushed through, apparently with lots of room for more weight.

It went like this (I didn’t plan on hitting a PB until the straps down was going so well)
135x5x2
185x3x1
225x1x1
Suit on:
255x3x1 → HIGH! Straps down, no wraps
275x1x1 → Straps down, wraps
315x1x1 → Straps down, wraps (So happy I did this straps down. So exciting  )
345x1x1 → Straps up, tighter wraps

Saturday Bench:
Went for a new personal best of 195lbs and missed it twice. I handled the weight very well and comfortable, but couldn’t get more then a few inches off my chest. It just wasn’t my day. I felt good with it though which is important. Next time I’m there and “feel” it, I’m going to get it.

45x10x1
75x5x1
95x3x1
105x3x1
Shirt on:
135x3 → 3 board
155x2x2 → 2 board (the first set was really ugly cuz I tried to get the shirt to do all the work)
175x1x1 → to chest, super super quick
195x0x2 → to chest, held it well, controlled it well on the way down, hit the sweet spot, just didn’t move a whole lot. I was gassed.

I then did a few deadlifts raw (no belt):
185x5x2
225x3x3

That’s about it. I’m busy, but actually getting to enjoy my long weekend. Before benching on Saturday morning, I went on a helicopter ride around Niagara Falls, so I was still a little queasy and dizzy when I started benching. We had lots of company at the club this weekend including the guy who ran my June meet and someone who competed in Ottawa. It was nice having different eyes around to offer different opinions.

I heard about your PB squat Friday night and was waiting for you to post this. Frank said it looked very good and solid.

Congratulations.

Thanks  I’m quite liking his suit. I need to buy my own before I move heehee. My legs are pretty beat up from it. It’s good.

I would have posted sooner, but was home briefly Friday night, was back there at the asscrack of dawn for my chopper ride, then didn’t get home til 4pm today. We bbq’d and then went to Port last night with a few people, and, well, I was lazy and didn’t leave until later this afternoon.

Just out of curiousity, with you doing London… are you planning on doing Provincials in October in Ottawa or in January? (I think Niagara is hosting them in Jan)

Are they changing the Provincial schedule to January next year?

oh yeah, nice squatting!

I’ll be doing Provincials in October. I may do them January as well depending. I don’t think you are limited to only one. I just want to make sure I’ve gotten them done in case something comes up in January.

Good job Court! You should take it easy on bench or else I won’t be able to bust your chops about it anymore

Yeah…starting in 2010 they’ll be in January. I think it’s to allow more people the opportunity to qualify for Nationals since they’re closer to that date. So this year people have two opportunities to do them.
