Sorry to hear 'bout the confusion at the job…don’t let them stress you. You’ll get back at it soon enough.
The ladies are giving you some great stuff! A proper warm-up is completely underated. Hell, it’s usually into the second hour by the time I’m into my working sets of my first movement. Gotta love it!
So, I rode my bike this morning, about 8 miles. I definitely like going around 8:30ish b/c it’s after the morning exercise rush hour. I finished my part of a PowerPoint presentation for class and now it is NAP time!
CD: The second hour? Holy cow! I like to get in and out in ONE hour.

Oh, it didn’t stress me, it was their fault anyway. But this chick who emailed me instead of calling me, she has made it her life’s mission to make my last 6 weeks at the hotel a living hell.

Sounds like it…when there aren’t any witnesses…crack her one on your way out! Oh yeah, good luck on your upcoming interview.
And yeah, these days I’m logging anywhere from 2.5-3.25 hours at the gym. Warm-up, extended sets, post-stretch it takes me a while…like I said, gotta love it!
Hmm . . . I do static stretching combined with some yoga moves, probably 10 minutes, before I start lifting. I had never heard that this could decrease strength before. I had read various reports saying it conversely helped prevent injuries and caused more injuries. Who knows what to believe? I will say I’m one of the only ones who stretches like this prior to lifting at a meet. Most people just walk into the cage and start squatting.

See, that’s the problem. One person says this, another person says that, and then you get the experts who all disagree. I think it’s just finding out what works best for your body. I’m not looking to get “jacked”, just healthy and looking good. I will give all advice a try and see what works the best. Stretching makes me feel good before I start anything but there are other ways of “stretching” such as the mobility stuff. I will probably end up combining the static stretching and the mobility stuff and adding some stretching to the end of my training as well.
So, I dyed my hair last night. Strangely enough, I dyed it a warmer (redder) shade of brown and got the color I’ve been looking for my whole life…sigh

very true, Grneyes. gotta find what works best for you.
i didn’t do ‘proper’ warm-ups til i went to a boot camp. damn instructor was about 20 min in and asked “are you warmed up, ready to go?” something like that. i like to do a lot of step-ups to a bench or risers+step. my hips are my pain point so that’s the area i try to make sure to warm up. jump roping is good stuff to. although that in itself can be a sweet cardio workout. (or combine a circuit style thing with weights and intermittent jump roping)
i likes the hair color, btw! ![]()

Hair colour looks beautiful!
Yeah, there are definitely conflicting schools of thought regarding stretching… I’d just rather not weaken anything, even if it’s only a little bit, prior to lifting heavy.
I love the hair color! what shade is it? any time I dye my hair it turns reddish…if I want blond, I have to bleach it and then dye it…ack
ok, girly icky talk over ![]()
Love the hair color too!
Agreed re: warmup discussion - I think warmup is person specific, and depends on things that feel tight or (god forbid) injuries, as well as what types if activities you’ll be doing. In my case, I do both static and dynamic stretches in a single warmup.
Here’s a link for some mobility work on a thread called Mobility for Old Farts (shameless plug for farts and old folks - sup hungry! Jk…)

I always feel like I should be stretching but I rarely do. Sometimes I’ll do a round of stretching after running. For warming up I skip rope for anywhere from a couple of minutes to 10 minutes. I have no recommendation however because I just do whatever I feel like and have no reason or justification.
Your hair is so nice and shiny! It looks so soft.
That hair colour looks very natural. Nice!
just catchin’ up…

'Scuse me??
Ok… I see how it is, Masch. Just wait…
How incredibly sad is it that all this time I’ve been reading your name as Gurneys? Green eyes, duh.
I was going to link you to the old fart thread too, the mobility work just feels good to do before lifting.

Moar weights!!
Now, woman!!
