Let's Try This: Grneyes' s Log

Long slow distance, I’m assuming, rather than, ya know, thinks that come on bits of blotting paper and make ya feel funny.

So, I was pissed off today. They (whoever they are) were working on the machines so they closed the entire weight room, couldn’t even used the free weights. So I did some stretching, triceps exercises with a medicine ball, and 20 minutes of cardio.

On the good side, I got a nice manicure yesterday! The color is Louvre Me Louvre Me Not.

HI!

So, I went for my bike ride this morning. It was slightly chilly but awesome! Every time I go for a bike ride I think “why don’t I do this more often?” I don’t know how many miles I rode, just rode until my legs got sore, took a 10 minute break and rode back.
nice. that path along Lake M. is awesome. too many marathon shirtless running dudes, though.
It’s one of the best things about living right off of LSD.
Yeah, it made me think twice when she mentioned “LSD” for the first time, while talking to me.

love the louvre color - dramatic and moody.

Yeah. Everyone calls it LSD or just types LSD.

So, on with the training! Is it still “training” if I’m not training for something? Or is it “working out” since my goal is to look awesome and lose weight? I’m down 5 pounds since starting; I weigh myself every Wednesday. I know weight fluctuates and blah blah blah and I’m not sure which 5 pounds I’ve lost, except that the ring IH bought me is now really loose and I should probably get it sized down before I lose it. Why do you always lose weight first where you don’t need to lose weight? I don’t need to lose weight in my fingers, I need to lose weight around my legs, butt, and hips. sigh

Anyway, on with the training/working out/exercising things I did today:

Everything is 4 sets, b/c 4 is a nice round, even number and is listed reps x weight.

Widegrip Lat Pulldowns: 12x50.

Machine Rows (as opposed to DB rows): 12x40.

Triceps: 10x30.

BB Curls: 8x30, 10x30, 10x30, 8x30. I think I tweaked my right wrist on these b/c it hurt for a little bit after. I wonder if I should use the DBs instead? I hate our DBs. I don’t have a picture of them but I do have a picture of the BBs that I have to work with. I will have to get a picture of the DBs.

Planks for 20 seconds a piece…only did 4…but at least I held them for longer.

I so cannot wait to get into a real gym.

I like how you took a picture as proof! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, your muscles are probably stronger than your joints. IRT the wrist pain You could use DBs to continue your strength gains (using a more neutral grip) or use cambered (EZ) bars, but since you didn’t picture them I’m assuming you don’t have them. SO, use a lighter weight for more reps, more often think 3-4 sessions per 7-8 day cycle for a period of 3-5 weeks, the longer being better/safer to help get your tendons and joints stronger before you start going up in weight. NOTE-this rule applies across the board.

It’s a common issue since the muscle fibers can adapt faster than your bones, tendons, fascia, etc. just remember, if there’s swelling to ice in bursts and “walk it off”, so to speak. The sooner you get back to the exercise, the quicker your recovery. Remember, NO PAIN-NO GAIN!

Best wishes

P.s. IME the ‘working out’ vs. ‘training’ is more of a mindset. Training being that you have a specific goal and you plan your training accordingly. Working out is what the rooks do by just showing up and doing something, no rhyme or reason. Which is why they usually look the same way they did last year.

Thanx for the advice!

Yeah, and I don’t want to look the same. I want to look awesome. So maybe I am training, training for life (omg, that is so cheesy!).

He is so cute!

So, I am at the parents this weekend helping clean out the basement, which involved my dad piling shit up and me hauling it up the stairs and out to the end of the driveway. At noon I said we were done b/c the Cubs were going to start playing and my mom said “you can work another hour down there.”

Now, I love my mom to death and I sympathize with her b/c of the breast cancer and mastectomy but she barely moves out of her recliner and her saying that pissed me off.

She has totally let go of the whole picking up after yourself and personal hygiene thing and my dad does pretty much everything for her. The house reeks like a gigantic cat litter box. Don’t you tell me I can work another hour in the dusty, spider infested basement.

Anyway, we did one side of the basement today and will do the other side tomorrow.

And the pizza is here. I will post yesterday’s training later tonight.

You are definitely training for your goal…to look awesome! Own that.

Don’t worry about what you call it, there are a few angry weird types on here but you can call it whatever you want. I prefer calling it picking up the heavy(ish) things.

Can I ask how old you are?

I am 32.

I tend to agree with PCH2 about the ‘angry’ comment. Some of the members IMO are a little too serious. I’ve been lifting for a good minute now and I’m no pro. I’m in it to feel better (physically, mentally and emotionally) and to be able to ‘hang’ with the grandkids more than anything. My 6yo grand-daughter thinks it’s SOOOO COOOOLLL that her Papa Tony is the only one in the family left that can catch her and lift her overhead like she’s still ‘the baby.’ Gives me a warm fuzzy, yeah I know…I’m showin’ tells here.

AAAANNYWHO, about the whole lifting-thing…to me, it’s more of a journey than a destination so there’s no need to rush things. Be dedicated to your goals, whatever they may be and understand there’ll be bumps along the way. The main thing is to remember to train smarter than harder and you’ll achieve your successes.

Just ask Kimba…
