Let's Try This: Grneyes' s Log

Snap, you didn’t sound any way at all. The upper chest/clavicle pain is still there, but is lessening.

So, today was a “free” day since my upper chest/left clavicle muscle hurts. We’ll see it how it goes tomorrow for DL Day.

Incline BB Press: 3 sets of 10 x bar.

Bench: 10 x bar. These kind of hurt so after one set IH said to stop.

Hypers: 2 sets of 10 x bw. I’ve never done these before, so figured I could try them today on my “free” day.

After that, I just wasn’t into it so I went home. Am going to put a heat pack on my upper chest to see if that helps lessen the pain/tightness.

The pec major attaches to the clavicle (see diagram). If it’s further to the outside, could be the front delt.

Thanx, Cal! It looks like it might be part of my pectoralis minor and upper delt, or near there. The pain is right near where the darker pink shoulder muscles meet the lighter pink pec muscles and upper delt muscles.

So, as many of you know my mom had throat cancer followed by breast cancer and went through chemo and radiation for the throat cancer and had a left masectomy for the breast cancer. It turns out, due to the radiation and chemo for the throat cancer the enamel on her teeth was stripped away and she has lost almost all of her teeth. It was going to cost 11K to get everything taken care of (teeth removed, dentures, other stuff I’m not sure about). Well, they went to the radiologist the other day and he said he’s going to see if Medicare can pay for it since it’s a medical issue, a byproduct of the radiation/chemo and NOT a dental issue. This is HUGE news!!! I was like “Yay, radiologist!!!” It makes complete sense. Her teeth were fine before all this happened, she brushed and went to the dentist and everything. It’s only because of the radiation/chemo on her throat that this happened.

Other than that, she’s feeling much better. She and my dad drove out to PA for IH and my wedding, a 12 hour drive each way. I was shocked she suggested it. She’s even started cooking again, even though she can’t eat most of what she cooks, but at least my dad isn’t have A baked potato for dinner anymore!!!

I know this is a training log, but I needed to get this off my chest.

Greeney, that is AWESOME that your mom is doing well and has a shot at restoring her smile without having to fork over that huge amount of money. Its so hard to have to worry about your parents’ health…

IH is a smart dude…definitely immediately stop doing something that hurts and let that rest for awhile. You can still work on plenty of other stuff, so no slacking!

Thanx, Kimba! Apparently the radiologist was SHOCKED at my mom’s teeth, he’d never seen anything like it so he’s going to talk to Medicare about it for them. I have to say that they’ve been pretty lucky with the doctors they have. You hear such horror stories it’s nice when you hear something good! It’s hard being the only child and so far away. In Chicago I could just hop the train and be at their house in a couple of hours to help out if they needed it.

No slacking here! Just doing light stuff!

Sumo DL: 2 sets of 5 x 65

Wide-Grip Pulldowns: 10 x 50. These “slightly” hurt my upper chest.

Seated Rows: 10 x 20, 4 sets of 10 x 40. These hardly hurt at all so I did an extra set.

Facepulls: 10 x 20. Only one set b/c IH’s shoulders/back were bothering him so we left after this.

Later we are having spaghetti at his parents’ house. We always have spaghetti when we go there because they know I like it. His mom makes way more than we can eat so I almost always bring the rest home and have enought for 2-3 meals.

Glad to hear your Mom is doing well…

OMG, spaghetti!!! A weakness of mine.

It’s weird I’m having the exact same issue with the shoulder/pec thing…I’ve triggered it many times just by getting up off the floor, from like a push up position…and then it lasts for days…

And then when you try to stretch it, like arm across chest type stretch, does it hurt??

MiM, it did, yes! Thankfully it’s all gone. I put a heat pack on it a couple of nights ago and it was gone the next morning.

Squat Day!!! Back to full squats. I think I did pretty well, considering it’s been awhile since I did all full squats and two days since I last trained.

Squats:
5 x Bar
5 x 65
5 x 95
5 x 115
5 x 115 <—These felt good. I did have a little Kimba-like knee cave, but not much. I don’t think I’ve ever had that before but I remembered to PUSH my knees OUT and that helped.

DB Lunges (per leg): 8 x 10, 10 x 10. I haven’t done these since August 24!!! I felt these from my calves to my hips! Never going to NOT do them again!

Supersetted:

Lying Leg Curls: 2 sets of 10 x 65
Leg Extensions: 2 sets of 10 x 70

It was really nice getting in a FULL leg workout! I’m sure my legs will not be happy with me later! LOL!

Good job getting a full leg workout, and yeah I’m sure you’ll be limping around the cathouse later. Good work!

hmm, well if you ever figure out the cause/trigger of that pain, let me know!

Good workout, yay!

So today was Bench Day and Measurement Day!!! Today was the first full bench work out since my upper chest/clavicle muscle issue. I have to say that I was very proud of how I did.

Weight: 165 lbs
Waist: 35
Ribs: 35
Bust (over nipple): 39
Hips: 41
Right Bicep: 13.75
Left Bicep: 12.75 <—This so explains why my right side lifts faster than my left side. Hopefully the DB bicep curls will help bring up the left side.

Inclines:
5 x Bar
10 x 55
7 x 65 <— Rep PR!
7 x 65 <— Felt so good, I did it again!

Bench:
5 x Bar
10 x 65 <— These I really had to fight for, wasn’t as easy as the previous two times. I’m going to keep doing them until they get as easy as the bar. I know my heavier weights might suffer for it, but this is something I just have to do.

DB Bicep Curls:
10 x 15
2 x 20
3 x 20

Here is a pic from July 30.

And here is a pic from today. I’m pretty sure I look thinner and the love handles aren’t as big, or it could be wishful thinking…

I see MAJOR improvement! Great work. I also read some of your log days at the beginning of this thread and some at the end and you have made major strength increases too. Really impressive.

total improvement! way to go Greenie! much nicer V-taper.

Thank you, Hallowed and N!!! It’s amazing what a proper gym can do!

Sumo DL:
5 x 65 <—These felt super easy! I was able to do all five without resetting. Usually I can only do three then have to reset.
5 x 75
3 x 95 <—Rep PR!!!
3 x 95
2 x 105 <—Weight PR! Finally broke that 100 lb mark!!!

Supersetted:

Wide-Grip Pulldowns: 10 x 80, 5 x 90, 5 x 90
Seated Rows: 10 x 40, 10 x 60, 10 x 60

Facepulls: 2 sets of 12 x 40

So, today marks the day that two of my goals have been reached: I have DL’d 100 lbs and have squatted 1 plate. The benching 100 lbs is going to take some time. Now I will have to think of two new goals.

I see a definite improvement in your back/waist. Congrats!!! Also congrats on the PR’s. You are smoking at the gym woman!

Thanx, Deb! You’re looking pretty fantastic yourself, you know!!!

Squat Day!!!

Squats:
5 x Bar
5 x 65
5 x 95
1 x 115 <—This pissed me off. My right knee cracked while doing the first rep and I tried to do a second and got maybe a quarter down and knew my back and legs weren’t going to support it. I was leaning way forward and probably would have folded over and hurt something if I hadn’t stopped.

DB Lunges (per leg): 2 sets of 10 x 10.

Supersetted:

Lying Leg Curls: 2 sets of 10 x 65
Leg Extensions: 2 sets of 10 x 70

Seated Calf Raises: 2 sets of 10 x 45

Calf Raises: 2 sets of 10 x 50. I do these on the leg press machine because the calf raise machine gives me very bad bruises on my shoulders.

Cable Crunches: 2 sets of 10 x 50

Said shoulder bruises. They last a good week, sometimes longer.

***So, for fun, I tried to do a pull up. I think I was able to pull myself up an inch to an inch and a quarter. I did it for 3 reps each time…

what are the bruises from???

yep, I see improvement…better posture too!

The bruises are from the pads on the calf raise machine.
