1/2 Squats:
5 x Bar
5 x 65
5 x 95
5 x 115
4 x 135
2 x 145 <—Totally failed on rep 3, had to leave the bar on the pins.
Squats: 1 x 135 <–Goal!!! It was semi-ugly and I do have video which I will post when I get my laptop back this afternoon.
Am going back to do all full squats next Squat Day.
Okay. So I gotta ask. What, exactly, is the point of doing half squats? I know a lot of you guys do them. I never have. I don’t ever squat to less than depth, even with a box, because I fear that I would lose the ability to intuitively know depth.
Lots of great work in here Greenie!
Congrats on the bench PRs and the advancing Dl. Woot woot!
Also curious about these 1/2 squats…do tell!

The half squats allow the use of a heavier weight and it puts a greater load on the body, along with the supporting muscles. So, when Greeny goes to do the full squats, it doesn’t feel as heavy. Plus, the weight wouldn’t be as intimidating… At least that was my thought process.
Partial movements are great for power and strengthening tendons and ligaments.
Its a good thought…I think it would hurt my knees though. and no hip drive?.
How do you even do a half squat? hint VID GRNY!!!
What IH said!
The full squat at 135 didn’t feel like what I would think 135 felt like. The best way to explain it is that the 1/2 squats at 135 felt the same as the full squats at 115 (last Squat Day). I hope that sort of makes sense. The halfs still have the hip drive, just not as much. It was kind of like doing rack pulls to prepare for DLs. After doing the halfs at 135 the thought of doing fulls at 115 didn’t faze me.
MiM, will be posting the vid in a minute! It’s only of the full 1 x 135 though.
your gonna pass me in squats at this rate…noooooo!!
seriously, good work.
Okay, here is my 1 x 135 squat.
Here is my Sumo DL 4 x 75.
I need to figure out how to make my vids clearer…
how much do those plates weigh?? (the DL)
Good work Greeny.
I want colorful plates ![]()
MiM, those are 15 each.
Nikki, yeah, the bumper plates are pretty colors. The 10s are green or black. 15s are yellow. 20s are blue. 25s are red.

I do walkouts to train my CNS for heavier squat weights.
I suppose partial squats are no different in concept than rack pulls. A partial ROM move. It just seems different and I’m not sure I’d ever be enticed to do them.
Snap, to each their own! ![]()
I think that’s why this stuff is so difficult for some people. Each body is different and responds different to different stuff. Just because half squats worked for me, doesn’t mean they’ll work for you or MiM or Kimba. I know, before I started going to the gym, that I overanalyzed everything!! I’m slightly OCD so I wanted the perfect program, the perfect diet plan. At some point, I realized that I just had to get in the gym and see what works for me.
Today is an off day for me (and for IH!!!) which is a good thing because I think I pulled something near my left clavicle. It’s not a lower neck muscle, definitely some sort of upper chest muscle.
I get that same pulled muscle strain at least once every couple months…and it stays for a few days. If you find out what is let me know!
I know what you mean about thinking into stuff instead of just DOING IT!! I used to do that and it stalled progress BIG TIME! Don’t be me ![]()

So true.
Glad you’re getting something out of them. Didn’t mean to come across as pompous.
Hope the clavicle pain works itself out soon.
