Try heavy grip work! My grip has come a really long way since the beginning. The last time I did farmer’s walks with the 45s, I wrapped a towel around them and still was buzzing through the walk like it was nothing. Amazed my trainer, especially considering how bad my grip was when I started (stopped every 10 feet to drop the weight). I’m trying to progress as far as possible without relying on straps (until the bitter end – or I should say until I get to redic numbers!!).
Grn, even after an embarrassingly large number of years in school, I regularly mess up my weights. I spend an inordinate amount of time between sets adding up the plates over and over to be sure I’ve done it right.
That was a solid training. Nice job!
That is fantastic training!! Keep it up girl. And I love that you LOVE the feeling of a hard days work(out). Congrats!
Greeny is on her way! Hello Tiger Boy!

What would be included in heavy grip work? I hope I won’t need straps too soon.
Today was arms:
DB Curls: 3 sets of 8 x 12.5
Pushdowns: 10 x 30, 10 x 40, 10 x 30. Went back down to 30 b/c 40 was too heavy and I kept raising my elbows.
DB Tris: 3 sets of 8 x 5. These made me feel super weak. IH gave me the 10lb DBs and I could barely do 3 reps.
Squats: 5 x bar, 5 x bar, 5 x bar, 5 x 55, 5 x 55. I’m not sure if I did 3 sets at 55 or not, so I’m only putting 2. My toes were super flared, almost ballet second so IH had me turn my toes in just a tad so that my knees tracked over my toes. Felt very comfortable. I can feel it where my legs meet my torso.
I did farmer’s walks and suitcase carries for my grip work. IH will know about them. Today’s work out looks great. Don’t stress on 10 lbs feeling too heavy. I had zero upper body strength when I started this journey 11 months ago. Zero. Now if I pick up 10 pounds it feels like a feather to me. But it took a long time to get there. You’ll be throwing 25s around before you know it. Just keep the positive mind set.
Where your legs meet your torso (in the back) is exactly where you want to feel it. Those muscles are responsible for the perky ass situation. And who doesn’t want that??? ![]()

No, it was in the front, like the sides of my bikini line. But my ass does look smoother… ![]()
Today:
Bench: 5 x bar, 5 x bar, 2 x 55 as warm ups. Then the tiger changed it on me. With no rest between sets: 1 x 70 (PR, if a newb can have a PR), 2 x 65, 3 x 60. REST. Then: 3 x 60, 3 x 55. He is very impressed with my bench form and weight I’m using.
Flys: 5 x 10, 8 x 25, 8 x 40, 8 x 55, 8 x 55. The reason I started at 10lbs is I’ve never used the HS Fly machine before, it has the hangy down arms that are free moving and I wanted to get the motion down. Then, I did 40lbs because that was my max at my work gym, but it was EASY. So I did 55, and that finally challenged me.
Cable Crunches: 10 x 40, 10 x 40.
Tomorrow will be legs and a longer work out. I’ve already been told that I will have my ass worked off. I can’t wait.
newbs can have PR’s darlin and yeah for you! ![]()
Greenie! It’s looking like your training really startin to take off!! (tips brim to IH, “Hey there, bro”)
Great stuff so far!! Keep up the hard work!
I don’t know if you’re interested in something like this at this point, but you guys could look into getting a set of Fatgripz to help with the grip training. Everytime I feel like I need to re-charge my grip, I just put them to work for a few weeks and my lifts, and more importantly my confidence, go up! (Really sucks when I knew I got that DL if my hands hadn’t slipped!)
Anyhow, GOOD SHIT! I’ll stop by later to see how ya’ll doing!
Training:
Rack Pulls: 5 x bar, 5, x 95, 5 x 115, 9 x 135 <–PR!
IH kept saying “one more, one more” and before I knew it, I had done 9 reps at 135. Just having that one big plate on the bar kind of intimidated me. I didn’t think there was any way I could do even 1 rep.
Leg Presses: 10 x MC, 8 x 90, 10 x 90.
Leg Curls: 10 x 50, 6 x 65.
Now is time for food and a shower. After that we are taking the train downtown so I know where I’m going for my interview on Wednesday.
That was an amazingly quick progression to the big plates! Good for you.
Awesome PR on the DL’s!
Amazing what proper motivation can do!! Great Job Greenie! And Good Luck on your upcoming interview, I’m sure you’ll nail it!
You are really moving along quickly Greeney! I’m keeping good thoughts for that job interview!
Thank you, everyone! I’m pretty amazed that I’ve moved this far this fast.
Did not go downtown Philly. Went and saw The A-Team instead. Hilarious! The guy who played Pike looked exactly like my first manager at the Chicago Marriott. They seriously could have been twins. Applebee’s afterwards and I did have a mudslide! It was very yummy. We left just as a party of 16 was being sat…perfect timing!
sounds like a fine day - and fingers crossed for the interview. xxx
Yesterday was a complete rest day. Slept in until 12:30. Pretty much did nothing. It was great.
IH worked on a program for me. Right now it is a three day split. I might want to add some metabolic stuff, like Cosgrove’s circuit after I run through it a couple of times, to see how much it kicks my ass.
Here is the program:
Day One:
Bench
Incline Press
Flys
Curls
Day Two:
Rack Pulls
Widegrip Pulldowns
DB/BB Press
Triceps
Day Three:
Squats
Lunges
Leg Curls
Calf Raises
