Let's Answer Everyone's Burning Questions

The best Batman.

The best comic-con hero for a costume.

The absolute best one of all time.

I’ve always wanted to follow the THX guidelines but never found a TV large enough or projector bright enough.

THX recommends having a well-designed room with an impressive screen size and a 36 degree viewing angle from the farthest seat

I guess the answer is, figure out where you’re planning on watching the TV, and then doing the math.

Take the distance you’re watching the TV from, multiply it by 0.62 and the TV should be at least that wide. Then for a 16:9 TV (most), multiply that by 1.14 to get the diagonal angle.

Putting it together: figure out how far you’ll be from the TV in inches, multiply that by 0.71 and get a TV with a diagonal angle of around that size.

(Mine is… nowhere near that.)

Wait, the punisher isn’t technically a superhero then either. He has no special powers same as Batman.

He is better than Batman though.

We all know the real GOAT though:

Exactly. It’s why I didn’t mention him, haha. He’s simply a BETTER Batman. Also had his family killed, also highly skilled and trained, but simply better.

But Conan is awesome too.

Alright, this is a weird one.

Why do people obsess over apples? It’s jucy cardboard, but from Genisis, to Johnny Appleseed, ā€œas American as apple pie,ā€ that Christmas movie about the girl who has to clean houses, apple-bottom jeans, why it’s a default kids snack?

Apples make no fucking sense.

They are abundant to grow in certain parts of the country, have a ridiculous shelf life for a fruit and plenty of varieties are delicious. Also, pair apple cider with spiced rum.

That was definitely something for the controversial takes thread. Apple pie is frickin’ delicious.

Yeah, we used to store/ship them at 33 f, and in Nitrogen fulled containers to prevent ethylene gas causing premature ripening.Thats why we ended up with our stoplight varities of Macintosh, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith - they could survive the process. I like seeing newer varieties coming to market now, but I’m not Snow White. Which again, fucking apples. Why are they sprinkled through our culture?

Edit: I’ve read that drinking apple juice before bed makes you have very vivid dreams. Never done it.

I dunno. I have a love hate relationship with apples.

The hate- I have this irrational fear if my teeth coming out while eating one. Maybe from childhood when that was the recommended method for having a loose tooth? I dunno. But I hate it.

Love- cosmic crisps. Apple cider/pumpkin puree vanilla whey protein shakes. And morels grow under the old trees smattered throughout the region. I visit two that produce every year. :+1:

I like pears better.

We planted apple trees and I love them for their spring blossoms and the cheery sight of the apples when they come, but I’ll eat maybe one apple a year, if that. However, my husband bought a cider press a couple of years ago, and I have to agree that the cider made for a very good cocktail.

Also, this, which was very good fun. I highly recommend a small apple orchard and accompanying cider press. We’re doing another Applefest next weekend, in fact.

I’m not against them - shredded green apples in tuna salad, sauteed apple, onion, and thyme omlettes, some of my favorite foods.

Actually this sounds good. My experience was vice grips in your mouth and a boot on your chest in a kitchen chair.

My alma mater (U of M Twin Cities) is big into apples. Honeycrisp, Sweetango, and Haralson are among the breeds they came up with. IMO, Honeycrisp is the best overall apple.

I recently did a culinary experiment. I microwaved some peanut butter and dipped apple slices in it. Pretty good. Not as good as caramel, but I normally have peanut butter on hand, not caramel. I might try a bit of chocolate syrup in the peanut butter.

Last night I ate about a half pint of strawberries. I like them in general better than apples. Green grapes is a favorite of mine as long as they are sweet.

Just was talking with some people about attending graduate school here. What’d you think of it?

My husband and I were talking about a video I watched yesterday of a woman who implemented Andrew Huberman’s many protocols for thirty days. I’m a huge Huberman fan, and get quite a bit of ribbing about it here at home because it’s all so OCDish, which speaks to my very heart. My husband has listened to some of it - and enjoys it - but we’re wired differently. Anyway, he’s definitely into watching the vid and would like ME to do a thirty day Huberman experiment. This led somehow to me talking about @Dani_Shugart’s log, which I’ve had some time to explore since I’ve had covid while he was out of town. Along with saying how happy I am that she’s established such a strong presence here, I was talking about ice baths and her mention that she was much better acclimated to the cold while doing it.

He then 'splained cold acclimation to me.

So I said ā€œthen you’re in violent agreement with me?ā€ He blinked and made a confused face. Undeterred, I pushed on and re-'splained it right back, offering my chilly point on October 7th vs my chilly point on March 7th.

I think I’m getting the hang of this!
