The other gym I’m a member of, with the pool and sauna, is unusable after 1700, its just full of young lads in groups of 4-8 taking over machines or cable stations for 30 mins at a time.
Im currently in a commercial gym for convenience, it has literally has dozens of grown ass men in school uniforms from lunchtime everyday waltz in, they come in like you says in large groups and monopolise areas of the gym for up to an hour, huh…thats when theyre not on the phones or fixing they hair in the mirrors. Then ya cant get near the leg equipment or deadlift platforms because every girl in the gym now does nothing but ass exercises. Maybe its im just getting older now, but im finding gyms to be toxic environments now.
Myself and several others that feel the same are talking about renting a small premises and having our own private gym, we already have all the basics between us all, racks, bars, fixed dumbbells, cable machines etc. Just need a decent leg press and smith machine. We’re all currently on the lookout for a spot at the right price. Cant come soon enough lol
Whilst this does happen at my gym, it never stops me getting a rack to train in or a machine to use. The number of women now using barbells to train properly including solid squats and deadlifts is great to see. The groups of kids looking in mirrors or just bloody talking is the thing that I despise the most. How the heck anyone has breath to talk between sets, other than a grunted g’day and a half lift of the hand I have no idea.
Lol, wish i could say the same. Absolutely agreed, it is good to see the age of women using pink 4kg dumbbells for high reps is in the past for the most part. With that said, i was just talking the other day to a female trainer, she even brought it up that all girls mostly do now is arse exercises and develop disproportionate backsides…because it appears thats in vogue now. Guess Its no different to these guys that go into the gym on a monday, and flat bench, incline bench, decline bench, free weights, cable flye etc, then on leg day theyre no where to be seen lol.
Yup, most of these young lads have zero enthusiasm, no idea what theyre at, if you try to offer advice they look at you like youve two heads. At 16 i was out working a full time job, not doing some part time Mickey mouse degree or course and spending hours everyday lingering bored around gyms and shopping centres. Never has there been such a pampered entitled generation.
agree with this for sure. I try very hard with my own kids to ensure they wont become like this. Heck I had my little man (8 yrs) ask to do 100 burpees with me at the weekend. No slacking in my house ![]()
A little private gym with some mates aounds like a great idea. Im almost missing the home set up a had in the firt lockdown.
Guess I’m extremely lucky. My numero uno gym is run by my cousin and pretty hardcore. We have fun but no problem in running off the loafers. Must say a few scantly clad young ladies working their glutes does improve morale. My other gym is at the local military post and very no nonsense. Great equipment but about 20 miles from my house. No hanging around and bsing. Get airborne rangers, some old decrepit PJ’s working out and no ones sitting on any equipment playing on their phones.

Aye mate, im currently training in my home gym a few days a week and a few days in at gym, just to use the cable machines and leverage leg press. I find they’re a better stimulus to fatigue ratio. Heavy shit is done at home.
Ive no issues noseying at age appropriate woman, but im not keen on seeing young girls, many of which are clearly still in theyre teens running about with they’re arse hanging out.
I talk to a few women in the gym, most of them younger than me but then so are most people in my gym. All of them train pretty hard and I find them much more pleasant to speak to and they seem to have a reasonable knowledge about training. Unlike a lot of the young men who talk crap and only interested in their biceps. It seems that the women that go to my gym to train, actually spend some time learning about or getting coaching on training. Boys seem to just do what they saw some beefcake do on instagram.

With the press and the high incline smith press a lot of work on the front delts.
I see the high cg smith as a Triceps movement, but yes front delts got some work.
Im very weak at pressing in general.
Took my daughter to watcth a kickboxing tournament on saturday. So she doesn’t get too nervous when she first competes in may.
I didnt really appreciate the standard her school was at.

Now its time to get really lean.
