Leg Press Transfer to Squat

I’m probably the only one here where the leg press has no transfer to my squat. And if I neglect the squat for more leg pressing I lose strength in the squat and size in my legs.

Actually I’m just the opposite. The stronger I get in my squats the higher my leg press goes.

I just feel like its kind of a break through thing that people may not know about, if that is what had helped me here.

I agree I also like it for the mental break.

what a weird premise for a thread. Who in the world would say leg press doesn’t have some transfer to squat. Of course it does. That’s why it’s an assistance movement for building a bigger squat in a zillion different templates. leg press builds leg strength. leg strength is pretty damn important for squat strength.

Here’s the thing that ACTUALLY makes sense. If ALL you do is leg press, you won’t make much, if any, progress on the squat, because the squat is a more complicated movement, and it is likely that you will fail for a reason other than quad strength. Hip and back involvement is substantial in a squat in a way that is not the case with the leg press. But the quad development from leg pressing is certainly useful for building a squat, particularly if that is where your weak point is. Here’s an example of someone who would benefit from leg presses, and really a lot of accessory movement in general for squatting. If a person can squat 400 lbs, and they can deadlift 750, they either have freakishly long arms and absolutely perfect genetics for the deadlift, OR they are deficient in quad strength but have plenty of power in their hips and back. This would be a perfect candidate to include a lot of volume on the leg press to bring their squat up.

I don’t know if anyone has already mentioned it but I have read Eddi Hall (AKA 500KG deadlifter) is a fan of leg press as a deadlift accessory.
